Kendall HunterThe San Francisco 49ers have the luxury of being well-stocked with a diverse group of running backs this year. Recently ESPN’s Mike Sando confirmed Kendall Hunter has enjoyed a “tremendous camp and will play a significant role this season”. The same could be said about second-round pick Oregon Duck LaMichael James although trying to get him the ball may be a problem.

It’s hard to complain when one the teams biggest questions entering 2012, is how to divide a workload between four talented runners. Although, by being too diverse, could cause problems with rhythm in the running game.

Fantasy owners are already overlooking Frank Gore as the feature back for the team. Gore’s ADP has dropped quite a bit over the last month, as players like Kendell Hunter and LaMichael James are all of a sudden get the “sleeper”grade from FF owners. Frank Gore actually played all 16 games last season, but has had a history of missing time. Gore is a bruiser and still has gas left in the tank, yet after seven seasons, six as the teams front runner many are predicting less of a workload for him in 2012.

If you ask me, the odd man out seems to be Brandon Jacobs. The team signed him before selecting a Michael James at NFL draft and at this point it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if we saw the ex-Giant veteran or Anthony Dixon not make the team. The 49ers don’t need to carry five running backs.

Fantasy Factor: The 49ers are hard team to figure out at this point. They have a lot of talent at receiver and the running back position. I would suggest not reaching on any of these players too early though, you are far better off taking a chance on selecting a player like Kendall Hunter in the late rounds rather than gambling with Frank Gore lasting all season. Frank Gore’s current ADP is 4.05 (4th round). I think the fourth round is an excellent estimate for his fantasy football value. Kendall Hunter’s ADP on the other hand, is currently 14.11 (14th round). -Solid value

QB Alex Smith making big strides in 49ers offense

Handcuffed: Kendall Hunter

I’m the convenient truth Juan… Yes, the 49ers have probably the most crowded backfield in football, but when the smoke clears there is one RB I like to come out in front. Kendall Hunter.
