As the preseason wears on, the Detroit Lions make a return engagement to Oakland, a place they enjoyed some smashing late season success in 2011. There waiting are the physical Raiders, a tough team which will provide the Lions with a great test on the field and mentally.
Here's a few things that are worth keeping an eye on during Saturday night's game:
Detroit Lions quarterback Matt Stafford and running back Kevin Smith, who left with injuries during Saturday's preseason game in Oakland, said they will not miss any significant time. Stafford suffered a left-hand injury -- his non-throwing hand -- while hitting it on a helmet during a second-quarter pass. Smith limped off the field with what appeared to be a leg injury. Both...
The ankle injury Lions halfback Kevin Smith suffered in Saturday's preseason game against Oakland doesn't appear to be serious. Smith told reporters after the game that X-rays on his injured ankle came back negative. He also claims that he does not have a high ankle sprain.Fantasy Spin:Smith is likely to see most of the carries for Detroit this year with starter Jahvid Best...
The biggest concern with playing four preseason games is that key players will suffer injuries along the way.
The Detroit Lions received one of those scares Saturday night in their 31-20 road loss to the Oakland Raiders when quarterback Matthew Stafford injured his left (non-throwing) handwrist.
He got his hand banged, coach Jim Schwartz said during an interview with the Lions...
Go ahead, blame the officials.
Many fingers were pointed in the direction of the zebras after this game, and while I agree that it was a poorly officiated game, I refuse to believe that it cost the Lions a chance to win.
The Lions have only one direction to point the finger: right back at themselves.
I’ll start with the positives, number one being special teams. Jason Hanson...

Quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Kevin Smith were two of several injuries that the Lions suffered during the course of the game.
Stafford injured his non-throwing hand in the second quarter during a pass attempt to WR Titus Young. During the play...
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford left in the second quarter of a preseason game against the Oakland Raiders with an injury to his left, non-throwing hand.
The team said his return was questionable.
Stafford's hand appeared to get hit by an Oakland defender after throwing an incomplete pass Saturday. Trainers were examining Stafford's hand...
Detroit Lions quarterback Mathew Stafford left tonight’s preseason game against the Raiders with a left hand injury, per Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com.
“Shaun Hill has replaced Stafford in the second quarter of their game against the Raiders after Stafford had to leave the game with a left hand injury. Stafford appeared to hit the hand on a helmet when Raiders defensive...
The all-important third preseason game for Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions turned out to be a real Bay Area bruiser. All are expected back by the regular-season opener against St. Louis on Sept. 9.
Like we needed another reason to hate ESPN. The four letter network recently did a power ranking of professional sport team uniforms. The Detroit Lions scored particularly low 26th out of the 32 NFL teams and 108th of the 122 uniforms they included in their rankings. Are they freaking kidding me? The Detroit Lions have worse uniforms than the Cleveland Browns? REALLY? One spot worse...
