Tim Tebow has been a polarizing figure since before he made his NFL debut with the Denver Broncos in 2010. A lot of the attention was placed on Tebow’s quarterbacking skills, but the topic of Tebow’s faith has always been on the tips of people’s tongues. Now, that topic is on the tip of one of the longest tongues out there — KISS front man Gene Simmons. Simmons recently did an interview with Radio.com, and the rock star said that he thinks Tebow has been unfairly victimized because of his Christian faith. “He’s got a religious passion, as well he should, we’re in America,” Simmons told the website. ”He’s proud to be a Christian, what’s wrong with that? And yet, with sports media and pop culture media, they make fun of his religion. Really? In America? If he was wearing a burqa, they wouldn’t dare say anything. But if you’re a Christian, you get to be picked on? What the hell? The guy’s got family values.” Simmons and bandmate Paul Stanley are co-owners of the new Arena Football League team, the LA KISS, and the team has already reached out to Tebow, offering him a quarterback contract and the chance to “earn millions” in the AFL. Simmons said that the team hasn’t heard back from the free agent. “We haven’t heard back from Tim,” Simmons said. “He’s considering this seriously; he’s in Los Angeles. Right after this, I’m gonna fly back with our guys and try to sit down with him and tell him that we’re serious about this. He’ll get the respect here that he didn’t get at the NFL.” We sure would love to see Tebow in some shiny body armor and eclectic face paint the next time he takes the field but, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the quarterback is entertaining the idea of playing football if it’s not in the NFL.
