After spending three years as a backup to Tony Romo, quarterback Jon Kitna s retiring from the NFL, according to ESPN. Kitna, 39, was placed on injured reserve Dec. 14 with a back injury and never returned. Kitna saw most of his action in Dallas during the 2010 campaign when he played in 10 games after Romo broke his collerbone in Week 3 against the Giants. That season, Kitna threw for 2,365 yards, including 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In his career, Kitna threw for 29,745 yards with 169 touchdowns and 165 interceptions.  He started his career in 1997 with the Seahawks and played in Seattle for four seasons before heading to Cincinnati.  He played with the Bengals for five seasons before joining the Lions, where he played from 2006-2008. With Kitna leaving, that makes third-string quarterback Stephen McGee as the primary backup behind Romo.
