LaDainian Tomlinson #21 of the San Diego Chargers rushes against the Denver Broncos during NFL action at Invesco Field at Mile High on November 22, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. (Doug Pensinger/Getty Images) There won’t be any new highlights of LaDainian Tomlinson running past a slew of Denver Broncos defenders into the end zone. There are enough of those as is; Tomlinson made a career out of them. The notorious Bronco-killer announced his retirement today, ending his career ceremoniously as a member of the San Diego Chargers.
After 13,684 rushing yards, 145 rushing touchdowns, 18,456 all-purpose yards, and 11 seasons as one of the NFL’s all-time best at his position, San Diego Chargers and New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson called it a career is a dignified press conference. The announcement was hosted by the Chargers, who wanted Tomlinson to retire as a Charger despite the fact that he had left the team in free agency and played his last two seasons for the Jets.
Peter King says L.T. is a shoo-in for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now that he’s a Charger again (and forever), better he run toward that goal than another Broncos end zone.
