Although their paths rarely cross, a great deal of respect and admiration exists between Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald. As with all legends, Belichick has long been a fan of Fitzgerald, and reiterated as much this week by saying he might go down as the greatest wideout in NFL history.

It’s safe to say the feeling is mutual with Fitz, who gushed upon learning of the remark.

“That’s what he said?” Fitzgerald asked via the Boston Herald. “I mean, it’s an honor that he even knows my name, to be honest with you. He’s the best coach ever. Look at his record, what he’s been able to accomplish over his career. He’s an unbelievable football coach.”

However, if there’s one man who he idolizes more, it most certainly is Tom Brady. Like a child praising his boyhood idol, Fitzgerald exploded with praise Wednesday, revealing he does his best to mimic the Hall of Fame-bound quarterback.

Seriously.

“He’s just unbelievable, passer rating, touchdowns-to-interceptions (ratio), the guy does it every single year,” Fitzgerald said, via AZCardinals.com. “Not to mention he has the most beautiful wife in the world. So he’s every man’s dream … er, every woman’s dream, I mean.

“I bought a pair of Uggs just to try to be like him.”

It’s hard to blame Fitzgerald for the amount of respect shown Brady’s way. Save for a few years with a declining (but capable) Kurt Warner, he’s endured a shaky supporting cast for much of his career, too long for someone of his merits. It’d be unimaginable to think what he, Brady, and Belichick would cook up together. Literally unimaginable, as in the only way it’s happening is in ‘Madden.’

Alas we’ll never truly know, but it’s always OK to dream. Just ask Larry.
