Las Vegas Raiders Rising As Potential Najee Harris Trade Destination
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders are going to be an interesting team to watch when the 2024 NFL season kicks off. After showing signs of turning things around late last season, Mark Davis opted to keep Antonio Pierce as the team’s head coach and there are many reasons for optimism surrounding the team.

Despite all the rumors suggesting that the Raiders would either sign or trade for a veteran starting quarterback or trade up in the 2024 NFL Draft to get their new franchise quarterback, Las Vegas opted for a different route. They kept Aidan O’Connell and signed veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew in free agency.

Also, they decided to block any interest from other teams in trading Davante Adams. They’re motivated to run things back and try to add talent to the roster that started turning things around last season.

That being said, Tom Telesco and the front office are consistently looking for ways to improve the roster. After losing Josh Jacobs in free agency to the Green Bay Packers, the Raiders could be in the market for a new running back. That’s where Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris could come into play.

Las Vegas Raiders Rising As Najee Harris Trade Suitor

Recently, there have been rumors swirling around the NFL that the Steelers might be open to trading Harris. That has not been confirmed, but it’s something to continue monitoring.

CBS Sports took a look at the potential suitors that could emerge if the Steelers did start openly shopping Harris. The Las Vegas Raiders were one of the teams that were placed on the list.

“After losing Josh Jacobs in free agency, the Raiders’ running back situation is murky. Harris would provide much-needed stability while joining a backfield that is currently led by Zamir White and former Viking Alexander Mattison. The issue here is what the Steelers would get in return. Would the Raiders be interested in dealing Davante Adams? If they were, this would be a slam dunk for Pittsburgh, even if it has to sweeten the pot in order to get a deal done. ”

Harris would be a very nice addition for the Raiders’ offense. During the 2023 season with Pittsburgh, he racked up 1,035 yards and eight touchdowns on 255 carries. Those numbers would provide the Las Vegas Raiders with a powerful backfield punch.

At 26 years of age, Harris is still in the prime of his career for a running back. The Raiders could view this deal as a move for a long-term starting running back.

Of course, everything would depend completely on the cost of acquiring Harris. Las Vegas isn’t going to overpay to get him. But, if the price is good, this is an option that the Raiders should seriously consider pursuing.
