CLEVELAND - SEPTEMBER 14: Lawrence Vickers #47 of the Cleveland Browns tries to get around James Harrison #92 of the Pittsburgh Steelers during a first quarter on September 14, 2008 at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)Fullback Lawrence Vickers has become the second restricted free agent to come to the OTAs and say “What the heck, I’ll just practice anyway,” despite not having a new long-term deal in place. Vickers was a huge reason the Browns suddenly became a force to be reckoned with when running the ball late last season, and seeing him in camp happy and motivated is a good sign. Like I’ve been saying before – and I’m sure other people have been as well – showing up at practice will only help in your quest to obtain the long-term deal with the team.

Vickers did bring some entertaining quotes with him to these practices, telling Tony Grossi in this cleveland.com article that “…it’s not my fault when everybody be on their backside,” and:

“I’ve shown in previous years that I can run and I can catch. Last year, they just wanted me to be a linebacker-busting machine. Whatever’s needed of me, I can do it. I’m your guy.”

He is a linebacker-busting machine, and the Browns could certainly use him. I have little doubt that the Browns will re-sign him eventually, because I imagine they salivate at the thought of what the physical Vickers-Hillis-Hardesty combinations could bring on the field.
