The Minnesota Vikings got their first win of the season on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers in London. Leading the Vikings to a 34-27 win over the winless Steelers was Matt Cassel, who replaced the injured Christian Ponder.  Cassel didn’t turn the ball over and went 16-of-25 for 248 yards and two touchdowns in the game. • Nooooooooooo! Yesterday's game was the biggest breath of fresh air the Vikes needed. Ponder has to be benched. Cassel presented consistency, accuracy and leadership throughout the game.
  • I completely AGREE!!!!
(I though Ponder had a broken rib??? WTF would they play him anyway???)
  • Both Ponder and Frazier need to be fired. Ponder is not a 1st string quarterback and Frazier in not a Tony Dungy.
  • I think Cassel needs another go. Everyone seems to forget what he did with the Patriots when Brady went down with the knee.....
  • Matt Cassel is not the best quarterback in the league, but he is substantially better than Ponder. I like Ponder, I wanted him to work out, but if he can't get it done, shall we lose the rest of the games all season? Who knew we had receivers? Now we know. If Leslie Frazier sticks to Ponder after this, he needs to go. I like him too...but...are you blind?

Minnesota Vikings: Matt Cassel gives coaches something to Ponder before bye

The Minnesota Vikings finally get their first (home)win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The final score 34-27 was in Wembley Stadium. The big story was Christian Ponder out with a broken rib and how Matt Cassel can step in to lead the team. Cassel answered that question fairly quick against a slumping Steelers team. Greg Jennings making his second catch for a touchdown. (Steve Gardner...

Christian Ponder won’t lose his job to Matt Cassel

Despite Cassel's smart performance, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says post-game that Christian Ponder will be the starting quarterback. . — Access Vikings (@AccessVikings) September 29, 2013 I don’t understand...

Fran Tarkenton wants Matt Cassel to start this week, not Christian Ponder

Fran Tarkenton tells the world in his article for the Pioneer Press that Matt Cassel gives the Vikings the best chance to win. What gave the Vikings the edge this week was solid, confident, professional quarterback play — something we haven’t had consistently for several years now. Matt Cassel gave the team a chance to […]

Matt Cassel 70 Yard TD Pass to Greg Jennings (Video)

White Cassel trying to keep his job and Jennings showed more speed than I thought he had.

Frazier leaves the Cassel question open-ended

Leslie Frazier liked what he saw out of Matt Cassel, but he wasn’t willing to name him the starter after the Vikings’ first win. More time is needed for evaluation, Frazier indicated.

PJD's Game 4 Recap: Can't Knock the Cassel

Can't Knock the Cassel Oh man ... There was a moment in the game with about two minutes left where I was certain we were going to hit that 0-4 mark. I thought FOR SURE we were going to let another team drive it down our throats with little time left on the clock for us to respond, and we were going to hit that 0-4 mark. We were going to be well on our way to that top draft...

Frazier: "Our quarterback is Christian Ponder"

It was unknown whether sitting quarterback Christian Ponder (ribs) would improve a stymied passing attack but backup quarterback Matt Cassel's command was one of many reasons the Minnesota Vikings outlasted the Pittsburgh Steelers' late-game comeback to hold on for the 34-27 win on Sunday in London. On 2nd-and-10 with 3:29 left Cassel appeared to check into a pass play...

The Steelers Better Not Take Matt Cassel Lightly

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a very nasty habit of taking their opponents lightly and playing down to their competition. It led to a disappointing 2012 season and it has led to an embarrassing start to the 2013 season. Though the team did look better during the loss to the Chicago Bears last week, they have yet to start fast in any game in 2013. The Steelers only leads that they’ve...

Christian Ponder is Week-to-Week

The Vikings are treating Christian Ponder's rib injury as "week to week." Ponder has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football TalkFantasy Spin:It's likely that Matt Cassell will start the next two games before the team's bye week in Week 5. A strong performance by Cassel might cost Ponder his job.

Patient approach applies in secondary, too

Leslie Frazier appears willing to stick with his rotation of young cornerbacks without making any drastic changes, even as he admits there have been struggles that the film confirms.

5 things: Vikings must win turnover battle in London

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings are the home team this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Of course, the game is in London's Wembley Stadium, not the Metrodome. After last week's loss at home to the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota knows there is one possible difference being overseas in the United Kingdom. "We won't get booed at home, let's put...

Matt Cassell might have won the players over , but not the coach

Replacing the injured Christian Ponder, Cassel pushed the ball downfield for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His teammates were loving it and played very hard for him. “You could tell guys were buying into it,” said running back Adrian Peterson, per WCCO-TV, but coach Leslie Frazier swatted down the idea of a permanent […]
