Since the late 1990s/early 2000s new stadium boom, the NFL has slowed down a bit with new places for the 32 teams in the league to play. MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and New York Jets, is the newest current stadium, and it opened in 2010. San Francisco will be the next team with a new stadium, and the franchise recently announced a naming rights deal with Levi Strauss & Co. Head coach Jim Harbaugh and GM Trent Baalke celebrate the franchise’s new stadium name by wearing pairs of Levi’s. (Source: 49ers Instagram) Slated for a 2014 opening, the 49ers will finally being moving out of Candlestick Park. Despite the name, by now people know that the stadium is going to be built in nearby Santa Clara, California. The 49ers came to an agreement with Levi’s for a 20-year, $220 million deal, with a five-year extension option as well. The naming rights deal officially becomes the second-biggest deal of its kind in NFL history. MetLife signed a $400 million deal for 25 years to get the naming rights for the East Rutherford stadium. More importantly, the new stadium should give the San Francisco area a legitimate shot at hosting a Super Bowl in the next five years as Colin Kaepernick’s real life value and fantasy football value both continue to develop. Might the 49ers become the first home team to play in a Super Bowl? It’s a pleasant thought for 49ers fans to consider. Candlestick Park has showed its age, even long after the San Francisco Giants officially moved out. Since moving into AT&T Park, the Giants have gained the reputation as having one of the nicest parks in all of baseball. The 49ers are hoping to see similar results once the 68,500-seat stadium is officially completed. Once built, only the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears will have stadiums built before 1966. Fans of the 49ers have long been wanting a replacement for the aging Candlestick Park, and now the stadium has an official name. Levi’s Stadium should fit in nicely with the rest of the Bay Area sports scene. The post Levi Strauss & Co. Lands Naming Rights For 49ers Stadium appeared first on Midwest Sports Fans.
