Lewis and the Jaguars will continue to work on a long term contract. The Jaguars placed the franchise tag on Pro Bowl tight end Marcedes Lewis on Wednesday according to The Florida Times-Union. The two sides have been working towards agreeing on a long term contract that would keep Lewis in Jacksonville through the prime of his career, but have been unsuccessful in reaching a deal so far. The Jaguars applied a non-exclusive tag on Lewis, meaning other teams will be able to sign Lewis once a new contract bargaining agreement is signed.  However, if another team signs Lewis they will have to give the Jaguars two first round draft picks in compensation.  The circumstances all but assure that Lewis will be with the Jaguars next season. If the two sides fail to reach a long term agreement, Lewis will play under a one year contract next season worth approximately $7.28 million.
