The Detroit Lions' roster makeover has turned disastrous for a Waukesha, Wisc., supplier of NFL team calendars. It was bad enough when the Lions' 2013 calendar debuted with the month of January featuring cornerback Aaron Berry. Berry, you'll recall, was released by the Lions way back in July before training camp even opened following two arrests in less than a month. He's now with the New York Jets. Things only got worse, much worse, for the calendar last week when the Lions released receiver Titus Young and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch. Young, who missed the final six games in 2012 for disciplinary reasons, is not only the featured player for December, he's also the action photo on the front cover. Vanden Bosch, meanwhile, is Mr. November. Then there's running back Jahvid Best (February), who's still on the Lions' roster but hasn't played since October 2011. Best's career quite possibly is over because of multiple head injuries. T...

Detroit Lions: Team Needs in the 2013 NFL Draft

As we continue the Team Needs series for the 2013 NFL Draft, we proceed to the team with the fifth overall pick; the Detroit Lions. After making a playoff run the year before, many were expecting the Lions to become a threat in the NFC North, but they fell back to their familiar place in 2012; the cellar. In what seemed like a rerun, the Lions lost numerous games in the same fashion...

Lions’ Calvin Johnson films ESPN commercial as “Egg-atron” (VIDEO)

Lions wide received Calvin Johnson is used to catching footballs thrown from Matthew Stafford’s Jugs machine with NFL linebackers and safeties looking to knock his block off.  Recently, he was Bristol, Connecticut at the ESPN headquarters catching passes thrown from SportsCenter anchor Lindsay Czarniak.  But Czarniak was not tossing around the pigskin, but rather a carton...

Detroit Lions are hoping to extend QB Matthew Stafford

The Detroit Lions are starting to purge their roster as the league prepares to roll into the free agency portion of the year. The Lions could use some help via free agency, but they are currently trying to clear up some salary cap issues. Last week, the team parted ways with veteran defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and they are hoping to enter talks with quarterback Matthew Stafford...

Titus Young on the cover of the Lions’ 2013 calendar

The Detroit Lions released wide receiver Titus Young just last week, but it looks like it was after their 2013 team calendar was put together.  As you can see from the picture above, Young is on the cover of this year’s calendar. This is really bad, the Lions should retract these calendars and place someone else on the cover.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function...

Lions GM: I’m willing to add Leaders to the team for 2013

The Detroit Lions suffered through an extremely disappointing 2012 NFL season. After making a playoff appearance in 2011, the Lions went just 4-12 and left many scratching their heads as to why. One of the issues with the team was discipline, and many point the finger at head coach Jim Schwartz for that. But the Lions [...]

Detroit Lions Mount Rushmore: Four Franchise Icons

The Lions have a long history. They started out as the Portsmouth Spartans in 1930 before moving to Detroit in 1934 and becoming the Lions. In their 79 years then have won four NFL Championships (1935, 1952, 1953 and 1957), but since then they’ve only won one playoff game in 1991.The Lions have two current players who can become all-time greats, one of which has made this Mt....

Detroit Lions Notes

A little late getting this to you - but with the server outages, this is as soon as we could get it. Better late than never I suppose! Lions Notes 2/10/2013: Schwartz – Don’t call it a comeback “I wouldn’t call it rebuilding,” Schwartz said Thursday. “There’s been a lot of other words used for it: reloading, whatever you want to call it. But when you say '...

Safe to Say the Vikings Will Be Better than the Lions in 2013

First things first. Up until pretty much this year when the Detroit Lions reverted back to being the Detroit Lions, those Honolulu Blue kittens always had a soft spot in my heart, despite "technically" being NFC North rivals. You see, those laughable louts had the panache to go 0-16 in the modern era, they ruined Barry Sanders' life, they always play on Thanksgiving...
