The might be the off-season of $100 million contracts.  Joe Flacco and Tony Romo are finished.  Aaron Rodgers is close to finishing his deal and we can add one name to that list. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Lions and star quarterback Matthew Stafford on working on a long term deal will probably put him up there with Romo and Flacco. The Lions, who have spent the past four seasons trying to construct their team around Stafford’s considerable skills, feel the same way. That’s why it’s just a matter of time before the sides agree on a long-term deal that will keep Stafford in Detroit for years to come at a price that probably tops $100 million. Both sides want it to happen, both sides need it to happen, and it makes sense for both sides to get something done before the start of the season. Stafford is entering the final two seasons of his rookie deal, and his cap number will balloon to $20 plus million.  Giving Stafford a new deal will free up cap space, and ensure he ...

Stafford more interested in wins than money

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Human nature these days is to try to make as much money as possible. But theres a problem with that approach in the NFLs salary-cap era. If you want to win championships, you need talent around you. You cant be too selfish and make so much that theres not enough to go around. Thats the issue quarterback Matthew Stafford faces during negotiations for a contract...

Matthew Stafford: I Don’t want my New Deal to Kill the Lions Cap

When we reported the news yesterday that the Detroit Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford were close to a contract extension, you know it would be a monster deal. With the likes of $100 million being passed out to quarterbacks like Tony Romo, common sense would tell you that Stafford would command a deal at least [...]

Lions rumors: Matthew Stafford extension talks picking up

It’s only a matter of time before the Detroit Lions sign Matthew Stafford to a long-term contract extension – according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Sports Press – who adds that talks between the quarterback and team have “started to simmer.” The Lions and Stafford have made it clear that there is mutual interest in reaching a lucrative, long-term contract extension...

Titus Young tweets then deletes apology to Lions fans

strong>Titus Young was once an incredibly promising young wide receiver who brought nothing but disappointment to Detroit Lions fans. Young had the potential to be great in developing with Matthew Stafford and Detroit’s offense after he was drafted in the second round in 2011, but he quickly turned into a headache. One of the ways Young, who was released earlier this offseason...

Report: Lions & Matthew Stafford working on Long-Term Extension

My thinking about Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is which quarterback are you? Are you the same young quarterback who threw for over 5,000 yards and 41 TD’s with a 97.2 quarterback rating in 2011? Or are you the quarterback that regressed in 2012, that threw for only 20 TD’s with a 79.8 rating? I’m [...]

NFL analyst: Romo 'one season away'

Joe Flacco made his critics look like fools last season. During a radio interview in April 2012, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback said he thought he was the best quarterback in the NFL. After being mocked for making such a statement, Flacco went ahead and led the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory. Former NFL defensive back Solomon Wilcots said he thinks Dallas Cowboys quarterback...

Brett Favre Says Don’t Blame Tony Romo for Cowboys Playoff Failures

The gift and the curse of being a professional quarterback, is if you get a RING, you immediately have ring protection and it clouds people judgment of you.  If you don’t the critics will always been ready to pounce. For example, Brett Favre went to two Super Bowls and won one, but he had many terrible playoff appearances late in his career, that are mostly swept under the rug...
