Lions coach Jim Schwartz doesn't normally comment on how long a player could be sidelined with a concussion, but he expressed optimism at his Monday's press conference that Cliff Avril wouldn't miss significant time.
"He was much improved after the game, probably more so than with a lot of the other concussions that we've had," Schwartz said. "He'll have to go through a protocol to return, but he presented different after the game than some of the other guys have."
Just four days after suffering the injury in the Lions' loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Avril has been cleared to return to the field.
"If I still had a concussion, I wouldn't be talking to ya'll," Avril said.
The franchised defensive end still didn't practice on Wednesday because he wasn't cleared until after the team worked out. He also continues to battle a lingering back injury sustained in Week 4. Source: MLive.com Attached Thumbnails

They've done just that in most of the first nine games with mixed results. Standing at 4-5 entering the FOX America's Game of the Week against visiting Green Bay (1 p.m. ET Sunday), the Lions must now rally for a postseason berth.
Why it has come to this makes Detroit the NFL's most enigmatic...

Detroit Lions Weekly: Week 11
The Detroit Lions are an average football team.
Their record says it, the numbers say it, the experts say it.
Why then, doesn’t it make sense?
Looking at the team on paper leads me to believe that they can be a legitimate contender. Then I turn my television to the game on Sunday and my brain and eyes don’t agree.
To be fair, injuries have killed this team. Without Louis...
Calvin Johnson rolling with the punches
ALLEN PARK, Mich. Calvin Johnson has that look right now of an elite athlete who refuses to be denied.
It wasnt enough to help his team, the Detroit Lions, win their last game in Minnesota, but Johnson certainly did all he could do.
His 12 catches for 207 yards and one touchdown added up to quite a performance under the circumstances.
Johnson hasnt been practicing much because...
Ndamukong Suh Calls Out Anonymous Scout
Phelan M. Ebenhack/AP
Ndamukong Suh’s honeymoon in the NFL is over. Suh came into the league being considered this well-rounded, articulate and aggressive defensive tackle who would change the game.
That is no longer the case. Suh has been involved in a few traffic accidents, garnered attention for being a very dirty player, and had his effort questioned lately.
Reports came...
Lions FS Louis Delmas Inching Closer To Return
Lions safety Louis Delmas is getting closer to playing again.
Delmas has not practiced with Detroit since sustaining a knee injury against the Seattle Seahawks on October 28. He was not participating in the first 30 minutes of practice media members were allowed to watch on Wednesday, but Delmas stretched with the team, and joked with several players, which is a good sign. Usually...

National Experts Weigh In On Lions

Rodgers extra challenging for Lions
First, he sighed.
Detroit Lions middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch then replied not with a name but a jersey number - "12" - when asked what had stood out about Green Bay's offense during his pregame video study.
That's the kind of dehumanizing effect Aaron Rodgers can have on opposing defenses.
No NFL quarterback is hotter entering the FOX America's Game...
