The Detroit Free Press is reporting today that running back Jahvid Best may never be cleared to play football again (Credit: AP Photo) After not being cleared to play during the 2012 NFL season, due to concussions he suffered during the 2011 season, Detroit Lions Jahvid Best is unlikely to ever play football again. Best, the Lions 30th pick in the 2010 NFL draft,  suffered four concussions dating back to his final year in college. Although Best has yet to officially announce his retirement, it is unlikely he will ever be cleared to play football again. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew admits that one of the biggest needs for the team this off-season is a running back. “We need that shifty back that can come in and be that change-of-pace guy who can catch passes out of the backfield, a guy that can run routes and get one-on-one with a linebacker,” Mayhew said. “That’s what Jahvid gave us, a guy with some juice, some elusiveness.” While it is disappointing to see Best’s career possibly coming to an end, it is smarter for him to retire than risk shortening his life. If nothing else, Best will become the poster child for the consequences of concussions. The post Lions’ Jahvid Best unlikely to play football again appeared first on DOWN & DISTANCE.

The Detroit Lions have already made it clear they plan on improving their back field this offseason and they’re ready to move on Jahvid Best who still hasn’t been cleared for contact after suffering multiple head injuries. According to the Detroit Free-Press, Best isn’t expected to play football again, which shouldn’t be a surprise.  The Lions will likely look to April...

Potential 2013 Detroit Lions roster changes

The 2012 season is over for the Detroit Lions, and now we look onto the potential 2013 Detroit Lions roster changes. The Lions will potentially allow 28 players to enter the lion’s den this offseason, and that is a lot to digest in one offseason. The first player is the most controversial re-signing of this offseason potentially in defensive end Cliff Avril. On the one hand, Avril...

The Lions were a huge disappointment last season, what can they do in the draft to improve? Mock Draft 1.0

The Lions need help on defense and now with the Best and Young situation, they need help on offense too.  Where should they go in the draft? Here is my first look at the NFL Draft.  There are a lot of teams that need quarterbacks this year.  The problem, there are not enough QB's in the draft. I expect to see teams trying to trade down, will they have any takers...

Titus Young making headlines once again

The Detroit Lions might have to take drastic actions to keep receiver Titus Young out of the headlines. "Oh I'm not done, if y'all going to cut me let me go. I'm tired of the threats,"...

Titus Young Continues Immature Twitter Rant About Lions, Says He’s ‘Tired of the Threats’

Titus Young once compared himself to Barry Sanders, apparently forgetting that Sanders is one of the NFL’s all-time greats and that he doesn’t even play the same position as Sanders. Don’t worry, though, Young’s stupidity didn’t stop there. Young, who fought a teammate in college and sucker punched Lions teammate Louis Delmas in May, was sent home before Detroit’s Thanksgiving...

Titus Young Tells Lions Don’t Threaten Him, Just Cut Him

Titus has had a lot to say over these past few days. He is talented enough that even if he is cut by the Lions, he probably would get another opportunity, but his mouth may make it harder for him. Oh I’m not done, if y’all going to cut me let me go. I’m tired of the threats — Titus D Young Sr (@TitusDYoungSr) January 25, 2013 Best thing to do right now is just chill and...

Ndamukong Suh: I’d never kick a man in the Groin

Detroit Lions defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh is known as a dirty player. A stigma that Suh wishes he could drop and knows people have solely because they haven’t gotten to know him. When asked about his Thanksgiving Day kick to the groin of Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, Suh made it clear that he would never do such a think intentionally. Per the Houston Chronicle...

There He Goes Again: Young Still Tweeting

In what appears to either irrational behavior, or a ploy to have the Detroit Lions release him entirely, wide receiver Titus Young took to Twitter again Friday morning.
