The Lions released receiver Kole Heckendorf on Tuesday and signed tight end John Madsen. Madsen (6-5, 240) was originally a receiver coming out of Utah but was converted to tight end after signing with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Madsen, 27, was released by the Raiders in November 2008 and signed with the Browns for the remainder of the season. He played with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the UFL last season. Heckendorf was signed by the Lions in October and remained on their practice squad.
