PLAYERS: Nick Fairley
TEAMS: Detroit Lions
The Lions used the 13th overall pick on Nick Fairley in the 2011 NFL Draft, but his career has gone about as bad as possible so far in his first year plus. He missed most of last year with injuries and now has gotten suspended twice in his first full offseason and is facing league suspension. However, the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions won’t even think about cutting him. As bad as his career has started, Fairley being cut would be a major surprise, even with the new rookie salary cap. The Lions would still suffer a pretty big cap hit if they cut him and they are very confident in Fairley’s ability to be an impact player for them when on the field. They praised his abilities earlier this offseason and he was back at OTAs today while the whole thing is getting sorted out. The Free Press predicts “at least” a 2 game suspension for him after a marijuana arrest and a DUI.

Should the Lions cut their losses with Nick Fairley?

Despite having more arrests than sacks thus far in his young NFL career, Nick Fairley will remain in the Motor City with the Detroit Lions. Per the Detroit Free-Press, Fairley is not in danger of losing his roster spot with the Lions, confirming “of course” the team is far from ready to cut bait with its

Lions’ Nick Fairley arrested for DUI

When the Lions selected Nick Fairley 13th overall in 2011, it was viewed as possibly the steal of the draft by many. Fairley was coming off a 12.5 sack season as a defensive tackle for the NCAA Champion Auburn Tigers and was once a candidate for the #1 overall pick. However, he seems to be the exact opposite of a steal so far. He didn’t play much as a rookie thanks to injuries...

Off-field incidents piling up for Detroit Lions

After an offseason that has been tainted by a slew of bad press for the Detroit Lions, it appears as though head coach Jim Schwartz has had enough. After defensive tackle Nick Fairley was once again arrested, this time for DUI and evading police, Schwartz has spoken out. “I’m a lot of things with that; concerned, angry – there’s a lot of different words,” Schwartz told...

Nick Fairley arrested again, charged with DUI and eluding police

Nick Fairley is having an interesting offseason. And it’s not the good kind of interesting, either. Nearly two months after a separate run-in with the law in Alabama, Fairley found himself in hand cuffs again on Sunday. Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday morning, Fairley was arrested in Mobile and charged with DUI and attempting to elude police, according to WALA-TV.  State troopers...

Nick Fairley arrested for DUI and eluding the police

The knock on Lions’ defensive tackle Nick Fairley during the draft was that he often showed a lack of hustle. Apparently he saves his energy for the fuzz. Fairley was arrested in Mobile shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday morning for DUI, eluding the police, and reckless driving. It was less than two months ago on April 3 that he was arrested for marijuana possession, so it looks like...

Fairley's arrests could de-rail his career

Yesterday morning, Nick Fairley was arrested for driving under the influence, and now the Associated Press is reporting that he passed an Alabama state trooper driving over 100 miles per hour. It's common to hear or read about an NFL player being arrested for a minor charge, especially during the news-dry offseason. Even so, this is Fairley's second arrest over the past couple...

The Detroit Lions have endured a chaotic offseason with three players being arrested, but a player which figures to be a key player in the 2012 regular season has now suffered his second arrest this offseason. DT Nick Fairley was arrested early Sunday morning under charges of attempting to elude police officers and driving under the influence. According to Fox10tv.com out of Mobile...

Suh, Fairley have plenty to prove in 2012

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions veteran receiver Nate Burleson looks around the locker room and sees the type of talent to make a serious run at a Super Bowl. "It's rare that you're on a team that actually can win the championship," Burleson said. "That is our goal." And it is a realistic goal except for one thing: How is the defense that allowed...

Nick Fairley, Titus Young back at OTA’s

Getty Images Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young and defensive tackle Nick Fairley both returned to OTA’s on Monday. Young has been missing in action since starting a fight with safety Louis Delmas over a week ago.  Fairley on the other hand was arrested this past weekend for attempting to elude police as well as driving under the influence of alcohol.  Just last month he...

The Detroit Lions need to adress off-the-field-issues

Forget about needing players to get healthy, the Detroit Lions need players that can stay in the lineup and out of trouble.  Last years top two picks, defensive tackle Nick Fairley and Mikel Leshoure were arrested for Marijuana possession several months ago, and for Leshoure it was the second time in a month that he was caught. Fairley was also arrested for the second time in less...

Lions' Young ready to move forward; Fairley back at practice

Even with franchise player Cliff Avril away from the team and unsigned, the absence of second-year wide receiver Titus Young was bigger news last week at Lions organized team activities. Young was back at practice Tuesday and released a statement that didn't clarify the exact reason he wasn't with the team last week. Young reportedly was kept away from the team because...

Lions narrowly defeat Bengals in battle for control of cell block D

LEAVENWORTH, KS - The Cincinnati Bengals’ seven year run of prison-yard supremacy at the Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary came to an end this Sunday at the hands of the upstart Detroit Lions. “The Bengals was a dynasty, no doubt. They ruled cell block D and wasn’t nobody big enough to take it from ‘em,” said Earle Macintosh, a longtime prison fight commentator serving...
