Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson caught 11 more
passes for 225 yards earlier tonight against the Atlanta Falcons, giving the Pro
Bowler 1,892 yards on the season and putting him over Jerry Rice’s record for
most receiving yards in a single season.
Johnson broke Rice’s record with under four minutes to go in
the fourth quarter of last night’s game. Following the play, he immediately
went to the sidelines and handed the ball to his father, Calvin Johnson Sr.
Now that Johnson has Rice’s record in his rearview, the next
question is if the talented wide receiver can hit the 2,000-yard mark. He needs
another 108 to hit the milestone, a total Johnson has surpassed in 11 of 15, or
nearly 75%, of the games he’s played in this season.
For his part, Johnson considers 2,000 a “very realistic” possibility.
We’ll see if the talented wide out is able to continue making history next
weekend against the Chicago Bears in the Lions regular season finale.
