Up until the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Texas A&M University wide receiver Mike Evans, there was thought that new head coach Lovie Smith would want to draft his own quarterback. Evans’ quarterback in college Johnny Manziel, was still available when the Bucs were on the clock and there was ideas and rumors that they would go with the former Heisman winner. Last season, Tampa selected quarterback Mike Glennon from North Carolina State University in the third round. The 6-foot-6 gunslinger had a solid rookie season, throwing for 2,606 yards and 19 touchdowns awarding him the NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year award only playing in 13 games. A few weeks before the draft there were trade talks of Glennon being traded away, adding to the idea of Smith drafting a quarterback. The talks continued until draft day but a trade was never made, and a quarterback was never drafted. After the draft, Smith said that Glennon was his quarterback for the future. “I love Mike Glennon. Mike Glennon is our quarterback of the future here. So why would you want to add a third quarterback to the mix?” – Lovie Smith, Buccaneers Head Coach The Bucs signed well traveled veteran quarterback Josh McCown during free agency and Smith immediately named him the starter. McCown threw for 1,829 yards for 13 touchdowns and only one interception playing only part of the season. With no competition, it is safe to say that Glennon will be the backup and potentially the starter in the future. The post Lovie Smith believes in Mike Glennon appeared first on Sports Glory.
