LSU wide receiver Russell Shepard may have gotten Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles in a bit of trouble.
He's claiming that Kelly called him during the sixth round to let him know that they could not draft him due to lost picks in trading up to grab QB Matt Barkley.
“I actually took myself off the draft board during the draft,” Shepard said on WNXX radio, via LouisianaDaily.com. “Teams started calling me probably in the middle of the sixth round asking me ‘Is it true that you’ve signed with a team already?’ and I actually got it out of the way before the draft was over, because that was the perfect fit for me.”
The show's host pressed him further to explain exactly what went down, and he flat out said "I signed with them before the draft was over."
We're sure the NFL will be looking into this one, but we're also sure this probably goes on frequently, except players don't usually go on telling everybody about it. File under: rookie mistake.
