Sometimes, you don’t have to throw for huge numbers to be impressive. It was a lesson learned by Colts quarterback Luck in the 27-7 win over the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.Luck, last year’s first overall pick in the draft threw for only 164 yards on the day, but his play and the fact the Colts were in control of this game early, proved to be the most important thing for a team that has been under the microscope all week long. The newest addition of Trent Richardson provided 35 yards on the ground and a touchdown on the day.Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said earlier this week that Richardson would see playing action this weekend, that he was not traded for to stand on the sideline.Pagano’s words proved prophetic. Here is what we all learned on Sunday afternoon.Gore tried to pick up the slackAccording to ESPN.com’s game summary, “Frank Gore ran for 82 yards after going for 60 total in his first two games, but there were few bright spots for Kaepernick as San Francisco (1-2) struggled to establish a passing game with tight end Vernon Davis sidelined by a hamstring injury. The defense committed numerous costly penalties for the third straight week.”Where was the offense? The 49ers suffered it second straight huge loss. Coming off a game where Seattle controlled everything last week, they have only 254 yards of total offense against a Colts defense that is not the juggernaut the Seahawks is. Are there issues with the 49ers offense?Trades breed competitionLast week, the Colts could not really find a running game. This week, it was evident there were two Runners moving forwardAhmad Bradshaw ran for 95 yards and had a touchdown to match Richardson. If this is now a two-headed tandem like Arian Foster and Ben Tate, the AFC is really in trouble. The Colts averaged 4.9 yards per rush on the day.Not so super anymore“It's been a bad two weeks for the 49ers as they have been outscored by a combined 46 points while turning the ball over seven times.”Also, the 49ers have 16 less first downs than their two opponents. The 49ers also only had the ball for 23 minutes on Sunday and could not move down the field.Colin not so awesomeKaepernick completed on 13 of 27 passes on the day and was sacked three times. He was also only able to gain 20 yards on seven carries. He will need to find the magic he had last season if the 49ers are about to get to the playoffs and challenge Seattle for supremacy.
