Found September 04, 2013 on No Guts, No Glory:
It should be crystal clear by now that the Jets want the Mark Sanchez era to be over. The problem with that is that the Geno Smith era, in the short term at least, doesn’t look all that promising. And there’s no way that Jets fans will stand for Geno Smith throwing interception after interception while the veteran quarterback that beat him out in training camp stands on the sideline. So the Jets are faced with the issue of finding a way to give Geno Smith the reins without having to deal with the distraction of Sanchez. Luckily for the Jets, Sanchez is currently out for who knows how long with a shoulder injury. To make sure Sanchez is out permanently, all the Jets really have to do is place him on IR. And that’s exactly what Sanchez fears that the Jets will do. Now that rookie Geno Smith has been named the New York Jets starting quarterback for the season opener Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a person close to ailing Mark Sanchez told USA TODAY Sports that the quarterback...

New York Jets Enter 2013 Season With Big Problems

The New York Jets really have their hands full heading into the upcoming 2013 NFL regular season. It’s not really a question of whether head coach Rex Ryan will be fired, but when.  The Jets entered the 2013 NFL Draft needing to find an immediate starter in the secondary, improve in the trenches on both sides of the ball and try to land a guy who could lead the team and compete...

Quinn's arrival spells the end for Sanchez

Mark Sanchez started his career strong, leading his Jets’ to back-to-back AFC Championship games, but has strung together back-to-back sub-par seasons. Now that Gang Green has added a new veteran QB in Brady Quinn, has Sanchez’s future in New York come to an end?

New York Jets announce rookie QB Geno Smith starter Week One

In a move that shouldn’t shock the world, the New York Jets have announced rookie Geno Smith will get the starting nod over veteran Mark Sanchez in week one as they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith has been dealing with an ankle injury and the team moved to sign former Green Bay Packers QB Graham Harrell shortly after the rookie suffered his injury. Harrell was released and...

Jets announce Geno Smith to start opener

The Jets did what they had to do this week and what they probably needed to do all along. The team announced that rookie quarterback Geno Smith would start this week which was kind of obvious given the condition of Mark Sanchez’s shoulder — unless Brady Quinn was going to make a late run at the job. The anticlimactic nature of the announcement doesn’t hide the fact this is...

EJ Manuel and Geno Smith Named Starters

With only one day left until the beginning of the NFL season, teams are putting the finishing touches on their starting lineups. EJ Manuel of the Buffalo Bills and Geno Smith of the New York Jets were both named starting quarterbacks. Manuel and Smith were the first two quarterbacks taken in the 2013 NFL Draft. The both of them were put in very similar situations. They both had...

TAMPA, Fla. -- Darrelle Revis wants Geno Smith to know that it might be a wise idea to study him. Jets say QB competition is 'ongoing'

Geno Smith may be the Jets starting quarterback against Darrelle Revis and the Bucs but there is no guarantee he’ll be starting anything beyond that. Injuries make predicting an NFL season impossible

The injury bug has already hit a number of teams hard in preseason action. The Buffalo Bills, for example, were hoping to roll out a premier, high-octane offense to kick off the 2013 campaign, but instead they may be rolling out an undrafted rookie quarterback to run their offense against the New England Patriots. They’re not the only team to be hit hard by injuries, especially...
