Of all the Mark Sanchez related stories, this has to be classified as one of the strangest. Mark Sanchez, apparently, needs a wingman in social situations. Let me explain. At this point, many of you, if not most, have probably seen the Mark Sanchez butt video that appeared on Deadspin earlier this week. NFL players partying is nothing new, and while it's not something I'd be caught dead doing, I don't condemn Sanchez for showing his butt to the world. Still, considering his public image problem, it probably wasn't the wisest of choices. Interestingly, such behavior is the trend, not the exception, according to one former teammate. "There were numerous times when things would happen, when things would go down, articles of clothing would be removed," Erik Ainge, a former Jets quarterback who was with the team from 2008 to 2010, told Metro. "Mark is goofy. He played truth or dare. He was kind of awkward around girls, so he needed other people around him to help him out. I was good at that -- there were other guys who were good with that. So we'd help him out and talk him through his awkwardness. It happened to him with the 17-year-old who said she wasn't 17. Now the butt video and there's been several other issues just like that, but he's always had wingmen." So, to recap, Mark Sanchez is as likely to scare a woman away at a party is he is to have a nice conversation with her and get her phone number. Interesting. Ainge wasn't finished, saying, "He's stupid while being stupid. You have to be smart while being stupid, and he's dumb while being dumb." In the NFL, being "stupid while being stupid" is one of the ways I don't want my starting quarterback being described. There's no problem with partying and enjoying one's own life, but when the public has already turned on you, you may want to lay low. [follow]
