Twitter is one of my favorite tools as a fan and blogger. It allows me to keep up with players around the NFL, and sometimes even allows fans and players to interact on a more personal level than an autograph signing. That's why it pains me, to a small degree, that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis has instituted a Twitter ban through training camp for all Bengals players.
According to CBS Sports, Lewis instituted the ban when players reported for training camp, and the head coach will be leaving it up to his team leaders to decide whether to extend the ban into the regular season.
Since Twitter's rise to popularity, former Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco Johnson has been a constant and active (as well as controversial) presence on the social networking site, often provoking opponents, fans, and anyone else that might be listening. It's possible, if not likely, that the ban is a result of past distractions that Marvin Lewis would simply rather not have.

The Bengals today signed head coach Marvin Lewis to a two-year contract extension, running through the 2014 season.
Lewis has led the Bengals to the playoffs in two of the last three seasons, including 2011, and to three postseasons overall, with two AFC North Division championships.
Coming off a playoff finish last year, with a solid coaching staff and good young players, continuity...

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis told WLW radio in Cincy via ProFootballTalk.com, that he believes rookie cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick will be back in time for week one of the regular season.
“It’s really a minor injury and unfortunately too much has been made of this again,” Lewis said, before venting (again) regarding Kirkpatrick’s decision to talk...
Went to Training Camp on Monday and put together a quick montage video with a friend of mine.

Bengals receiver Jordan Shipley has been cleared to practice, the final step in his comeback from reconstructive knee surgery.
Shipley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Sept. 18. He was limited during drills in the offseason and wasn't allowed to practice when training camp opened on Friday.
He practiced for the first time on Monday, along with cornerback...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- More plays to pick. More route variations for receivers. When he gets into the huddle during training camp, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has many more options at his fingertips nowadays.
It's a lot different than a year ago.
Dalton and the rest of the Bengals were learning a new offense on the run last year during training camp, which was shortened by the...
2011 in a Nutshell: 9-7AFC 6th Seed – Lost Wildcard Round
Last year was pegged as a growing year for Cincinnati, a rookie quarterback, rookie wide receiver, new offensive co-ordinator and all of one month to install everything thanks to the lockout. After starting out 1-2, the Bengals went on a 5 game winning streak in October to have them in contention for the AFC North crown...

The Cincinnati Bengals won't be tweeting about training camp or anything else for the next few weeks.
Coach Marvin Lewis has banned players from using the social media outlet during camp. He imposed the ban after consulting team leaders about the crackdown. So far, they're following it.
Lewis says the ban is ''part of being selfless'' as a player. Many Bengals...
FOXSports.com fantasy football editors Ryan Fowler and Joel Beall paid a visit to Paul Brown Stadium on the first day of Cincinnati Bengals training camp last Friday. Their mission was to get a better idea of which players to target outside of A.J. Green in 2012. Who is the #2 receiver? Is this a RBBC? Is Jermaine Gresham worth starting? Do the players realize how big fantasy football...
Comments on the Cincinnati Bengals by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):
CINCINNATI BENGALS (14)
Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 9): Maybe too high at 9, but I love the QB and both coordinators.
Alex Marvez (Foxsports.com, 9): Bengals shocked last season by making playoffs. Don't be surprised if deeper postseason run occurs with quarterback Andy Dalton...
