By Tim BrittonDENVER -- Jerod Mayo had a few reasons to celebrate this weekend.
The linebacker was all smiles decked out in his AFC East champions gear following Sunday's 41-23 win over the Broncos. That, in turn, came on the heels of a five-year extension Mayo worked out with the Patriots on Saturday.
"I'm very grateful, just for my family, Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick, just for getting it done," said Mayo, who had seven tackles on Sunday. "I'm just so excited to be here for another five years."
"It's great. He's our defensive captain, has been since his second year in the league," head coach Bill Belichick said. "He's a good football player, he's a good leader, he really takes a lot of pride in what he does and makes the players around him better. So it's great to have him with us for some more years."
