Fox Sports Detroit:
ALLEN PARK, Mich. Just like they did last week, the Detroit Lions are preparing as if star receiver Calvin Johnson wont play Sunday at Cleveland.
Thats what we have to do, running back Reggie Bush said following Wednesdays practice. He didnt practice today. We have to prepare as if hes not going to play.
Johnson injured his right knee during the Lions victory over Chicago on Sept. 29. He missed practices last Wednesday and Thursday before returning on a limited basis on Friday.
The club listed him as questionable on the official injury report, but the decision was made to keep him out after Johnson struggled with the knee while going through a workout on the field before the game.
Detroits offense came to a screeching halt in a 22-9 loss at Green Bay. The Lions had averaged 30.5 points in their first four games with Johnson in the lineup. His presence forces defenses to focus heavily on him while opening things up for others like Bush.
Its hard to replace a guy like that and what he brings to the game, Bush said. Youre missing such a big threat out there.
We had prepared all week as if he wasnt going to play. We knew what was at stake. When youre missing a guy like Calvin, we all have to do a little bit more. We didnt get it done.
If Johnson can't go again, theyll get another chance to prove they can move the ball and win without him against Cleveland.
The Browns have won three straight, largely because of strong defensive performances.
The best thing we can do is not let one loss turn into two losses, Bush said. Our sense of urgency has to go up as an offense.
After Johnson missed Wednesdays practice, coach Jim Schwartz indicated that his availability could come down to a game-day decision again.
Hes doing a little bit better every day, Schwartz said. He got out on the practice field a little bit last week but wasnt able to go. Last year he dealt with a lot of things and was able to be productive on Sunday.
We probably wont make that determination (if Johnson will play) until late in the week, whether he gets back on the practice field (Thursday or Friday) or not.
The determination may not even come until Sunday. Well just have to see how it goes. But hes improving.
--- Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh said he hasnt heard from the league concerning his tripping penalty against Green Bay.
I wouldnt say it was a tripping play, Suh said of the play in which he clearly tripped quarterback Aaron Rodgers. I was more or less reaching out and trying to grab him (while) being held.
"Its part of the game. I got to find a better way to get off offensive linemen and make the play.
Suh said he also still hasn't heard the outcome on his appeal of a 100,000 fine for an illegal block earlier in the season.
--- Suh was amused when he found out he was the subject of a Saturday Night Live skit last weekend.
I think everything is big time if youre making Saturday Night Live, Suh said. They cover a lot of spaces. Friends have told me about it, but I havent seen it so I have no clue.
Asked if he ever would like to host the show, Suh answered, No. You should know me. I dont like being in the medias eye. Once Im done playing football, Im sitting quiet in some back woods.
That from a guy who has appeared on both a dating and diving reality TV show.
--- Receiver Nate Burleson, out with a broken left arm following a car accident, was back on the practice field Wednesday going through some individual drills while catching tennis balls with his right hand.
Working with the hand-eye coordination, said Burleson, who was wearing a soft cast on his left arm during the workout after the hard cast was removed Tuesday. If Im sitting inside here, I dont feel good.
"Just getting out there, moving around, it gives me a little bit more excitement and enthusiasm. It helps me deal with the insanity of sitting out.
Burleson wouldnt pinpoint a return date, but theres been speculation that it could be Nov. 10 at Chicago following the teams bye week.
He said hes hoping for sooner than that.
If it was up to me, Burleson said, Id be suiting up this week and putting a brace around it.

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson returned to practice on Thursday with a brace on his injured knee, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Johnson took part in position drills but did not run routes downfield nor line up with the skeleton offense.
It still sounds like Johnson will be a game time decision this week.

Receiver Calvin Johnson returned to practice Thursday for the Detroit Lions, but only on a limited basis.
Johnson told reporters afterward that he's feeling "good," but he wouldn't answer specific questions about his ailing right knee that forced him to miss last Sunday's game at Green Bay.
"I'm feeling better," Johnson said. "We'll...
Calvin Johnson was back on the practice field for the Detroit Lions on Thursday, although it's still not clear how likely he is to play this weekend at Cleveland.
Johnson was inactive in a loss at Green Bay last weekend because of an injured right knee. He didn't practice Wednesday, but he was on the field Thursday during the portion of practice open to reporters.
After missing last week’s game with a knee injury, Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is expected to be a game-time decision.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson missed practice which opened up speculation whether he would play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Reggie Bush isn't so sure. Bush isn't holding out hope on seeing Johnson in uniform on Sunday. Bush says the team is prepping for Sunday's game as if Johnson won't be playing.
"Yeah, that's what we have to...
Calvin Johnson will be a game-time decision this weekend when the Lions get set to face the Browns in Cleveland. The big, talented receiver missed a 22-9 loss to the Packers the prior week, but practiced on a limited basis on Thursday. His replacement, Kris Durham, caught three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown. It was the only passing touchdown of the day for the Lions’ quarterback...
Detroit receiver Calvin Johnson is not practicing Wednesday, according to Lions beat writer Dave Birkett.Fantasy Spin:Johnson is likely to be a game-time decision, but even if he plays he faces a tough task in cornerback Joe Haden who has shut down every receiver he's faced this season.
Last week: 8 (-1)
It’s amazing how powerless the Lions’ offense is without Calvin Johnson, but it’s understandable considering he’s the best receiver in the NFL and everyone else is a bunch of scrubs. Whether or not they can win in Cleveland this week probably depends on his availability. He’s one of the most valuable non-quarterbacks in the NFL, after guys...
Browns cornerback Joe Haden says he can't worry about whether Lions star wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play Sunday after missing last week's game with a knee injury.
Haden has to be ready for whatever Detroit might throw at him. And so far this season Haden has been up to every challenge for the Browns (3-2), who will try to extend their winning streak to four games...
Every week during the season, we’re debating the biggest talking point from the week before about the Detroit Lions.
Lions’ Toss-up, Week 5: After Calvin Johnson couldn’t go, the Lions lost in Green Bay 22-9 and didn’t get much offensive performance at all. Are you concerned about Matthew Stafford’s abilities as a franchise quarterback given his inability to rise above...
What do you mean Calvin Johnson’s out? Yeah, he was Questionable, but Calvin Johnson’s Q is better than my RIP. Luckily, the Creeper Report rolls deep at WR and RB.
So I bump Victor Cruz from Flex to WR and wonder: “Jason Snelling or Golden Tate?” Another week I want to start Tate, but I suspected Seattle/Indy wouldn’t be a high scoring game. I felt Atlanta should get...
RB Rankings – Week Six
Stevan Ridley has taken a tumble in our rankings this week and although he still possesses RB1 upside due to the absence of Shane Vereen he has a flex floor and thus comes in ranked as an RB3 this week. Ridley can get it going at anytime which is why it is hard to suggest sitting him but he is very far from a consistent fantasy option. Dynasty leaguers may...
If Detroit Lions' WR Calvin Johnson plays Sunday, Browns defensive back Joe Haden is prepared for the challenge.
The Cleveland Browns have won the last three games in creative fashion. Both the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions look to improve to a 4 and 2 record this Sunday at First Energy Stadium. Here are some keys to the game.• Reggie BushThe Cleveland Browns have the 4th ranked defense in the NFL. Cleveland has allowed only 95 rushing yards a game this year playing against some elite...
Last week saw my streak of 100+ points come to an end and I wasted Aaron Rodgers (14 pts) and Reggie Bush (6). I could have had a really nice week, I had 86 points thanks to the St. Louis Rams, Matt Prater, Randall Cobb and Josh Gordon. How has your season played out so far? This week I am going with Thursday Night Football at the QB position and Jay Cutler (21.2%) vs the New York...
