Is Cameron Wake the most underrated defensive end in the NFL? As a pass rushing specialist, playing under the radar might be the best thing for Wake, who I have proclaimed will lead the NFL in sacks this season. That is great news for Dion Jordan and the Miami Dolphins and really bad news for the rest of the NFL.The former CFL and Penn State star has been on a mission since joining the Dolphins five seasons ago. After a 15-sack season last year, Wake will have more help on the line with the addition of rookie first round pick Dion Jordan and the free agent signings of Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler.Wake and his teammates have been at practice in south Florida for the past week, getting ready for the Hall of Fame game in Canton, OH. With a week of practice under their belts, the Dolphins are meshing together as a unit with new faces on offense (Mike Wallace, Tyson Clabo and Dustin Keller) and on defense (Brent Grimes). Here are some news and notes from this week.*Dion Jordan making the transition to the pro game. Jordan has told the media he just wants to help the team win. He has not had much contact in the last few months. “I feel like I’m getting better. It’s been a couple months before I’ve been able to come out here and get some work, some actual football work. It was great, and I’m just trying to improve and do whatever I have to do so I can get out here and help this team,” he told miamidolphins.com.*Two Gators, Two Dolphins in fight for playing time. Caleb Sturgis is a kicker. Mike Gillislee is a running back. Both think they have something to offer this team. While Sturgis is in a battle to win the kicking job, Gillislee looks to be the team’s third running back on the depth chart.*The defensive line will be very good. With Wake, and players like Dion Jordan, Paul Soliai and Randy Starks with young linemen such as Olivier Vernon and Derrick Shelby, there is a true chance this could be a special year for this defensive line. If that is the case, then there could be Pro Bowl invitations on many levels. Tough line play could also mean the linebackers will be able to stop the run and rush toward the passer.*Ryan Tannehill has a new target. One of the good things about practice has been the connection between Ryan Tannehill and Mike Wallace has been getting better. Being able to connect early and often has to make the offense better. If Tannehill and Wallace can follow on the same page with the likes of Dustin Keller and Brian Hartline, this receiving corps could be very good.
