Today, Vontae Davis can be a fan. Although the Dolphins were out of the postseason race weeks ago, Davis is still in the thick of it. Well, sort of. He will be in San Francisco at Candlestick Park to cheer on his brother Vernon Davis, a tight end for the 49ers. San Francisco plays the New York Giants in the NFC championship game. “It’s real crazy because growing up we always talked about it,” Vontae Davis said. “It’s amazing to think back on those days and how far we’ve come.” Vernon Davis is part of the reason the 49ers are still alive. He caught the winning touchdown in last week’s victory against the New Orleans Saints. After the catch, Davis came off the field in tears. Vontae Davis said it was built up emotion from an unfortunate incident three years ago. He was asked to leave the sideline by former 49ers coach Mike Singletary, who felt Davis wasn’t giving maximum effort. Did Vernon Davis Deserve an Excessive Celebration Penalty for This? (Picture)

Obviously this is now a moot point thanks to Kyle Williams and other San Francisco struggles, but this struck me as somewhat odd when watching NFC Championship.  First of all, officials usually let a bit more slide in terms of excessive celebration and unnecessary roughness in the playoffs.  For the most part, referees would rather not have a flag like that affect the outcome of...

Be Careful What You Wish For: New York Giants set to take on 49ers in San Francisco

In the days after New York’s stunning dismantling of the hitherto near perfect Green Bay Packers a number of 49ers players (Vernon Davis, among them) were candid in their assessment of the game, and admitted that they were cheering for the Giants to beat the Packers. The reasons, really, were practical. If the Packers won the [...]

49ers Report Card: The NFC Championship Game

Offense: The 49ers only have one serious weapon in the passing game, tight end Vernon Davis. He catches three passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns, but it's evident at the end of the game that the 49ers need more help in the passing game. Grade: C

Ralph’s Three Keys to a Giants’ Victory in SF

DNL’s Ralph Vacchiano was on the air this week and provided his three keys for the Giants if they are to advance to Super Bowl XLVI… 1) Control Vernon Davis 2) Keep pressure off Eli 3) Stop the Run

Keys to the game: 49ers, Giants

The 49ers need a third weapon in their passing game. The Giants won't let Vernon Davis get loose as he did against the Saints. They'll pay a lot of attention to Michael Crabtree, too. Delanie Walker may need to step forward.

NFC Championship Game Recap

Follow @SFNinerNoise on twitter for news, updates, and more     Game Recap Both defenses came out to play in a game reminiscent of the 1990 NFC championship game between these 2 teams. On a sloppy field neither offense could get going on each of their first possession. On the 49ers second drive starting at their own it took just 2 plays for Alex Smith to find his favorite Tight...
