Found December 11, 2012 on Waiting For Next Year:
The Michael Lombardi rumor just won’t go away for whatever reason. There must be at least a couple sources continuing to push this name around. The latest from this past weekend had Lombardi linked to Cleveland with Nick Saban in tow. 92.3 The Fan’s Baskin and Phelps talk to Lombardi every week, and he weighed in (barely, but a little bit) on the latest round of rumors that Andy Baskin playfully confronted him with. Andy Baskin: “Are you coming with Nick Saban? Can you address those rumors for us please?” Michael Lombardi: “You know, look. As I’ve said many times on the show, you know, the decisions about what’s going to happen in Cleveland haven’t been made yet. I think only Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner know those answers. I don’t know those answers. I don’t know where the rumors start from, but I just know that what I’ve read in the papers, I haven’t talked to anybody. And so therefor, just enjoy the Browns three game winning streak and move forward.” Lombardi went on to talk more about the Browns and where they are with three games left on the schedule. Rookies playing a huge role in Browns' streak

BEREA A big reason the Browns won their third game win in a row was due to the contributions of rookies. Pat Shurmur was asked if it was the confidence theyve gained or the opportunity to show their skill set. Its probably a combination of both, Shurmur said. When they have the confidence and opportunity and when those two meet they have the chance (to make plays). There was probably...

Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy through 13 games in 2012 and 2011, respectively

Here’s a look at Brandon Weeden’s stats as Browns quarterback through 13 games in 2012 next to Colt McCoy’s in the same job through 13 games in 2011 (click images to enlarge). Note that Colt had just one fewer completion in the exact same number of attempts (!!!), for a total of 304 fewer yards than Weeden, but one more touchdown and four fewer interceptions, with a slightly...

Browns handle Chiefs easily, 30-7

That's three in a row for the Cleveland Browns, as they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 30-7, highlighted by rookie Travis Benjamin's 93-yard punt-return for a TD. The win makes it one more win than last season's total record. It also marks their longest winning streak since 2009. Cleveland QB Brandon Weeden went 17/30, 217 YDS, but without a TD pass, instead handing...

The return of the Cleveland Browns

5-8.   Nothing exciting about that record in the NFL. 5-8 usually means a season that’s been defined by “what ifs”, probably some calls for the backup quarterback to rally the troops, and maybe even some calls for the head coach’s, well, head.   If someone told you that the Cleveland Browns were 5-8, you’d [...]

Shurmur says Browns still preparing for RG3

BEREA Pat Shurmur downplayed the fact that Robert Griffin III might not play this week and said the Browns will prepare the same way regardless of who the quarterback is. There has been uncertainty whether Griffin III will play or not this week after suffering a grade one strained lateral cruciate ligament (LCL). Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon said on ESPN that Kirk Cousins...

Shurmur: 'I'm not worried about saving my job'

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- The Browns are still mathematically alive in the AFC playoff hunt. It's a long shot, but they haven't been eliminated with three games remaining. And with every win, Pat Shurmur's odds of returning as Cleveland's coach improve. With his team riding a three-game winning streak -- the Browns' longest since 2009 -- Shurmur feels good about the...

WFNY Podcast – 2012-12-11 – Craig and Jacob talk Browns, Tribe and the Elf on the Shelf

It’s like a WFNY episode of “The Real World.” “What happens when people stop being polite and start getting real? A guy who grew up with Christmas and a guy who grew up Hanukkah discuss their holidays to gain a better understanding of each other and also unite in the universal creepiness of The Elf on the Shelf.” Anyway, that was only the first couple minutes. Then we...

Robert Griffin’s father says his son will play against the Browns

Robert Griffin III’s father told USA Today Tuesday that the quarterback “definitely” plans to start at Cleveland in Week 15. “He’s doing great,” Robert Griffin II said. “He definitely said he plans to start. I haven’t seen him (the last two days). But he told me (today) everything has gone well. … Monday he said he felt really good. Today he felt better. Every day...

Michael Lombardi As The Browns GM & Nick Saban As HC?

Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe reports that two NFL sources have informed him that NFL network analyst Michael Lombardi is in fact being considered for the Browns general manager job. Bedard adds that current Browns’ GM Tom Heckert could “force his way out after the season” if team president Joe Banner starts taking control of specific personnel and financial issues....
