Michael Strahan responded early Friday morning to Warren Sapp, who seemingly bragged Wednesday about making it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame over Strahan. Sapp was announced last weekend as one of the members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013. He made it over Strahan, who is one of the best defensive ends in NFL history and will almost assuredly be elected to Canton next year. During an interview with WDAE’s Tom Jones and Rick Stroud Wednesday, Sapp was asked if he had doubts about making it. He said he did when it came down to him and Strahan. “Say if I rewind this to Saturday at 12 o’clock me and you are sitting and I say, ‘It breaks down whatever and whatever and then you have Michael Strahan and me. C’mon, the menace and the media darling,’” Sapp said, via Joe Bucs Fan. “C’mon. Madness, or Good Morning America? I mean, c’mon.” Strahan, who is enjoying a post-football career as an analyst for “FOX NFL Sunday” and host of “Live! with Kelly and Michael,” didn’t understand why Sapp had to invoke his name. He sent a few tweets to Sapp Friday about the matter: @warrensapp You never cease to amaze me! Enjoy your moment. You don’t need to take a shot at me to justify yourself to other people. #class — Michael Strahan (@michaelstrahan) February 8, 2013 @warrensapp I only competed against myself. Don’t let people make you get at me to justify your HOF selection. Enjoy it because u earned it. — Michael Strahan (@michaelstrahan) February 8, 2013 @warrensapp @jonathonjfelix @theone2hate I dont have thin skin but I also don’t try to make others look bad to make me look good. #Insecure — Michael Strahan (@michaelstrahan) February 8, 2013 Sapp then suggested Strahan give him a call to talk privately rather than publicly on Twitter if he wanted to discuss things: You have my # too. I’m a grown man and handle myself like one. Respect me and I respect you! “@warrensapp: @michaelstrahan u got my #!” — Michael Strahan (@michaelstrahan) February 8, 2013 That was enough fighting for Strahan, who decided to end the beef by congratulating Sapp, who later responded positively by saying Strahan would be joining him in Canton before long. @michaelstrahan no Hoping my G, You’re coming!! — Warren Sapp (@WarrenSapp) February 8, 2013 Before Sapp responded to Strahan to make peace, Chad Johnson jumped in to remind his colleagues of how good they are and to tell them to stop fighting. @ochocinco No doubt! Keep doing your thing man. Respect! — Michael Strahan (@michaelstrahan) February 8, 2013 We can consider the matter closed as of Friday considering there hasn’t been anything else out of the men on the subject. What Sapp said makes plenty of sense. I was surprised he made it over Strahan, who had similar qualifications, given that Strahan seemingly had a better relationship with the media. But there was a way Sapp could have presented his comments so that they would have come across less like he was boasting. However, the way Sapp said it makes him who he is — he has always been known as a big talker.
