Mike Holmgren may have walked away from his job as Browns president, but he might not be ready to walk away from football entirely. Seven head coaches got canned on Monday, meaning there are plenty of jobs available across the NFL. And while there are a number of candidates who teams will look to woo, Holmgren could be near the top of the list. For those considering Holmgren, there’s good news. He’s standing by. “If anyone is interested, I’ll listen,” Homgren told ESPN’s Ed Werder in regards to head coaching jobs. Holmgren last coached in 2008, leading the Seahawks to a 4-12 record. Prior to that, though, he won four straight division titles in Seattle, and made the playoffs five straight seasons, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2005. Holmgren also coached the Packers back in the day, winning a Super Bowl over the Patriots in 1996. He went 75-37 as head coach of Green Bay from 1992 to 1998, cementing himself as one of the league’s premier coaches. He eventually became the president of the Browns in December of 2009, but owner Jimmy Haslam announced in October that Holmgren would not be back for the 2013 season. We’ll have to wait and see if anyone decides Holmgren is their man. Considering the amount of jobs available, though, it wouldn’t be shocking if he at least received a couple of phone calls. I asked Mike Holmgren about a return to coaching. “If anyone is interested, I’ll listen.” Holmgren doesn’t seem entirely done with football — Ed Werder (@Edwerderespn) January 1, 2013
