Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin injured his hamstring during practice on Saturday and will sit out for at least a week (Credit: AP Photo/Gus Ruelas) After injuring his hamstring during practice on Saturday, it looks like Dallas Cowboys Miles Austin is going to miss at least a week. The team doesn’t feel that the injury is as serious as either of the hamstring pulls that wound up keeping him out of six games last season, but they are using those injuries as a guide to make sure that there’s no lingering absence. “We just have to learn from that experience and he has to learn from that experience,” coach Jason Garrett said, via Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com. “Making sure he’s getting all the hydration he needs, getting all the treatment. He’s been doing all that stuff, but we have to make sure we’re somewhat cautious with him in making sure we’re not getting him back too soon and then when we get him back making sure we continue to monitor that … Sometimes when you’re an undrafted guy from Monmouth University and a Jersey-tough type guy you don’t want to tell the coach anything like that. You say, ‘Coach, Im fine,’ and that’s one of Miles’ greatest strengths. Sometimes it can creep up in a negative way as well.” The Cowboys start the preseason on August 13 against the Raiders. Should Austin’s absence continue through the second or third preseason game, the Cowboys might have to abandon their intention to stick with the receivers they already have and find someone from outside the organization to round out the roster. If Austin is to miss a number of weeks during the season, Dez Bryant will have to step up if the Cowboys expect to win. This could have fantasy implications as well depending on whether or not Austin will miss time.
