The 2012 NFL Draft is in the books and so is the 2012 Mr. Irrelevant Winner! With the 253rd pick of the draft the Indianapolis Colts selected the quarterback from Northern Illinois, Chandler Harnish.

Harnish is the most accomplished gun slinger in the history of the school. He ranks first in nearly every single category in career and season records. He also is ranked high in all-time MAC records, including 3rd in All-Time Offensive Yards. He’s not just a big arm, he also ran for nearly 3000 yards and 35 touchdowns in his career. He was 22-5 during his Junior and Senior campaigns, which is probably the most important stat.

The Colts selection bookended the draft selecting a QB with the first and last pick. Harnish will go into camp with a chance to compete for a backup role. He will face Drew Stanton and Trevor Vittatoe for a chance to sit behind Andrew Luck. As fun as the “Mr. Irrelevant” award seems, this is still a dream come true to any football player. Harnish told ESPN, “It’s complete elation, it’s surreal. I’m so happy to be a Colt, I’m speechless.” Straitpinkie wants to congratulate Chandler Harnish and we hope he is able to make the cut and continue to live out his dream.
