An MRI on Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril on Monday revealed there is no serious damage to his back, according to CBS Sports. Avril left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter after twisting his back pursuing Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder. He did not return. "I think I'll be all right," Avril said after the game. "We've just got to figure out what's going on and then, you know, find out what I can do to calm it down and we'll go from there." He said he expects to be fine. The Lions have a bye this week and then visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 14.

NFL First Quarter Report Card: Detroit Lions

To say the Detroit Lions would be one of the biggest disappointments through 4 games would be an understatement. Coming off consecutive losses to the 49ers, Titans and Vikings, there isn’t much going right for Detroit. If things don’t get better quickly, problems could arise in the Lions locker room. Offensively the Lions have come nothing close to the success they had in 2011...

The Detroit Lions are back

A season ago, the Detroit Lions made good on promises of a turnaround by making the playoffs with a 10-6 record. Despite losing in the opening round, they set the bar for 2012 higher than any point in recent history. Unfortunately, they haven't followed through. The Lions are off to a stunning 1-3 start, with their lone win coming against the St. Louis Rams. In their...

Matthew Stafford airbrushed t-shirt available at Ford Field

The t-shirt that Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was so proud of in the ESPN commercial for Monday Night Football is now on sale at Ford Field.  If you remember the commercial, you remember the shirt.  Stafford had a t-shirt made with an airbrushed image of himself on it.  Immediately following, he was eating lobster for dinner and asked the server for a bib to protect said...

Matthew Stafford Fails To Impress vs. Vikings

Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford went 30-of-51 for 319 yards but he was sacked five times and failed to throw a touchdown pass. He did rush for a touchdown but he only has four total scores in four games after producing 41 in 16 games last season.Fantasy Spin:The good news is that Stafford wasn't limited by his leg injury that knocked him out last week. The bad news is that...

Detroit Lions: Week 5 NFL Power Rankings (#23)

Last week: 23 (+0) Record: 1-3 I had the Lions as one of my disappointing teams to start the season and I’m feeling pretty good about that. Their special teams are a mess, having already allowed 4 special teams touchdowns this year, but special teams aside, they still rank 14th in yards per play differential. If they can get their special teams issues cleaned up, they can be better...

Lions fall to 1-3 after home loss to Vikings

DETROIT A season that started three weeks ago with such great promise is quickly imploding on the Detroit Lions. Expectations had soared for this historically dreadful organization after a 10-win, playoff season a year ago. But they have already reverted to their old ways, evidenced by Sundays 20-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field. Desperately needing a victory coming...

Vikings 20, Lions 13: Good, Bad and Ugly

Another loss, and another poor special teams performance by the Detroit Lions. Mike Mady breaks down the good, bad and ugly in Detroit's 20-13 loss to Minnesota.

Same issues plague the Lions

Ford Field turned into a house of horrors for the Lions on Sunday as they lost their third straight game 20-13 against the Vikings to fall to 1-3 heading into the bye week. It seems like the same problems are facing the Lions in all of the losses, lack of consistent running game, big plays and special teams issues.  Always good to see that a team is struggling in all three parts...

Detroit Lions Keys to the Game vs. the Minnesota Vikings

Sitting here a month ago, it looked as though this game against the Minnesota Vikings would be an easy win and Detroit would be heading into the bye week on a positive note. However after falling to the winless Tennessee Titans last Sunday while Minnesota pulled the upset at home against the San Francisco 49ers, the perspective on this game has changed dramatically. Entering today’s...

Jets sign CB Berry

The New York Jets signed cornerback Aaron Berry to a two-year contract Monday, according to ESPN. Berry, who was waived by the Detroit Lions during the summer following two arrests, served a three-game suspension by the NFL. The Jets need help at corner with Darrelle Revis likely out for the rest of the season with an ACL tear. Running back Joe McKnight had even suited up as...
