SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Alex Smith is supportive of Colin Kaepernick‘s success, even if the second-year pro takes Smith’s starting job as 49ers quarterback.

“If you can’t be happy for your teammate’s success you’re playing the wrong sport. Go play tennis or golf or something,” Smith said Wednesday. “That’s ridiculous, I think. That doesn’t belong in team sports, in my opinion. It’s the quarterback position. It gets a lot of attention. We’re going to get talked about.”

Smith plans to fight for his job once he is fully healthy, and he had yet to be medically cleared Wednesday after missing Monday night’s 32-7 rout of the Bears recovering from a concussion.

Jim Harbaugh Is Ironically Benching Alex Smith on Thanksgiving After Once Defending Him Against ‘Jive-Turkey Gobblers’

But considering Harbaugh made the decision on the eve of Thanksgiving, the situation has become more interesting. Smith, after all, is the quarterback that Harbaugh defended earlier this season against those...

The question now has to be asked...

This Is Not A QB Controversy In San Francisco!

Alex Smith suffered a concussion and was taken out of the game in Week 10 versus the St. Louis Rams, which ended in a 24-24 tie. Backup QB Colin Kaepernick came into that game in relief duty and played decently, completing 11 of 17 for 117 YDS. He also rushed 8 times for 66 YDS and scored a touchdown. These are pretty good numbers considering that his previous work in this...

Aldon Smith’s Causing So Much Devastation to Quarterbacks He’s Earned Title as NFL’s New Sack King

The quarterback sack is a storied art dating back to days of Deacon Jones in the 1960s. Jones not only helped establish the importance of the play, with his 173.5 career sacks over 13 NFL seasons. But the “Secretary of Defense,” as Jones was notoriously known during his playing days, is also credited for coining the term. Jones use of the expression wasn’t to merely make it...
