In a surprise move the 49ers out-Tebowed the New York Jets in the first half by implementing an offensive package that featured second year quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Was this the beginning of the end for Alex Smith in San Francisco? When Harbaugh took over the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 one of the biggest questions he had to answer was who would be his starting quarterback? Most thought Colin Kaepernick, then a rookie, would beat out the veteran Smith, but as everyone now knows; Alex was given the nod late in the 2011 preseason. The Harbaugh regime made the seventh offensive coordinator in seven years for Smith but under new leadership, he would have the best season o...

  • Absolutely not. Everytime Alex Smith doesn't go 16-0 someone calls for a new quarterback.

Smith has an injured finger on his passing hand.

If Kaepernick takes over the starting position, then the 49ers will be a .500 team.

San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Jets: Five Things We Learned

If you listen closely, the collective sigh of relief from the 49ers faithful fans screams like the winds off the Golden Gate Bridge. Meanwhile, on the other side of America, that sound you hear is the New York City media pounding the Jets like an over-the-hill heavyweight (much like the Niners did today).Completing their two-game road trip one down and one up, the San Francisco 49ers...

49ers vs. Jets: Thumbs up and thumbs down

Which way does the thumb turn for the 49ers after their 34-0 victory Sunday over the New York Jets, including a bounce-back of defensive dominance, a regular wrinkle of Colin Kaepernick, a convoy for Carlos Rogers, David Akers hooking to the right, Dashon Goldson playing a mean center field, Frank Gore’s power plunge, emerging new weapon Mario Manningham and much more? 49ers 34, Jets 0

49ers defense suffocates inept Jets

The San Francisco 49ers are everything Rex Ryan wishes his New York Jets were. San Francisco used a solid running game, a smothering defense, a little bit of the wildcat-style offense and even blocked a punt to cruise to a 34-0 victory Sunday. That's exactly the type of team the Jets coach was hoping to build. Instead, Ryan had to watch it from the other sideline as the 49ers...

49ers shutout Jets 34-0

The 49ers went into Met Life Stadium and embarrassed the Jets 34-0. The game started a little shaky, the offensive passing game was shaky, the running game was solid, but the 49ers just had trouble putting 7 on the board. In the 2nd quarter with 3rd and 7 the 49ers put the ball in the hands of Colin Kaepernick and he easily walked into the endzone for 7. After that the 49ers got...

49ers offense needs to lift its game vs. Jets

Alex Smith knows his team will likely need an improved performance from its offense this week, and the 49ers will try to deliver that against an opponent missing a major part of its defense.

49ers Dominate Short-Handed Jets 34-0

Carlos Rogers' 51-yard touchdown on a fumble return headlined a smothering defensive play from the San Francisco 49ers in a 34-0 blowout victory over the injury-plagued New York Jets Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
