Remember Susie Sanchez? Sure you do — she’s the 39-year-old woman who made the Oakland Raiders cheerleading squad two years ago when she was 37. She also happens to be a mother of three and grandmother of one. That’s right, a grandmother was once an NFL cheerleader and recently went for it again.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Sanchez was one of over 400 women to try out for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading squad over the weekend. Of the hundreds, she was the only grandmother. She tried out for five years before finally becoming a Raiderette in 2011.

“The year I was on that team, some of the girls were born the year I graduated,” Sanchez explained. “If you look at the numbers, it’s ‘What am I doing?’”

Sanchez will turn 40 in August, and she says she felt like she had to give NFL cheerleading one last shot. Believe it or not, she was not the oldest person at the tryout, as one woman was 41.

“I thought why not?” Sanchez said. “I got to go to the big guys. I’ve got to go to the best team in the NFL.”

Of course, she means the best cheerleading team in the NFL. No offense to Tony Romo, but the Cowboys aren’t quite there yet. Unfortunately, Sanchez only got to audition in front of the judges for 90 seconds before being dropped during the first round of cuts. She said this will be her last year trying out.

As far as seeing a 39-year-old cheerleader at Cowboys tryouts is concerned, I doubt anyone was surprised. If you remember, we showed you another grandmother who tried out last year that was 16 years older than Sanchez. One of these nanas are bound to make the team eventually.

  • There's asolutely no reason that she shouldn't be a cheerleader, she's a smart beautiful woman. The fact that she's 40 just makes her more exceptional.

Tony Romo Playing Less Golf This Offseason, Won’t Try to Qualify for US Open

Tony Romo is known not just as perhaps the best golfer in the NFL, but maybe all other professional American sports. Romo hasn’t qualified for a PGA Tour event before, but it probably wouldn’t...

Will the Cowboys make the playoffs after a terrible draft? NFL Predictions 1.0

The Dallas Cowboys and their part time GM didn't have a great draft, how will that impact their season.  After signing Tony Romo to a huge contract, does he have enough talent to lead the Cowboys to the playoffs?  The NFC East has some solid teams and don't expect the Eagles to be a door mat again this season.   I like the Cowboys to win their home games, especially...

Potential Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader a Grandma?

When it comes to cheerleaders the first name that pops into the minds of just about everyone in the free (and heck probably the Communist world too) world thinks of first and foremost is the legendary Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Pete Rose honored by team, gets number retired

It’s been more than 28 years since Pete Rose stepped into a batter’s box, but on Tuesday night, baseball’s hit king was part of a publicity stunt that would have, no doubt, made the late-Bill Veeck roll his eyes. Rose was invited to take the field for the Florence Freedom and serve as base coach and, you guessed it, even stride up to the plate at the game’s leadoff hitter...

Tom Brady: 'When I suck, I'll retire'

Some NFL players just don’t know when to hang them up. Take Brett Favre as an example. The Packers legend could have gone out on top after 16 seasons in Green Bay, but instead decided to “unretire” several times in less-than-memorable stints with the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady hasn’t hit retirement age yet, but he’s...
