Depending on who you ask, Michael Vick is either an athlete who carries a tremendous comeback story around with him or nothing more than a multimillionaire who abuses animals. Some people feel that Vick did his time in prison and learned something from his experiences, while others feel that he can never be forgiven. Vick talks about all that and more in his autobiography “Finally Free,” which will be available for purchase on Sept. 4.

Vick began writing the book in prison, and he discussed some of it with USA TODAY Sports earlier this week. In “Finally Free,” the Eagles quarterback talks about his rough upbringing and the regret he has for the crimes he committed in getting involved with dogfighting. One particular excerpt from the book really sheds light on how significant a part of Vick’s life dogfighting had become.

“Back when I was involved in those activities, I may have become more dedicated to the deep study of dogs than I was to my Falcons playbook (Vick played in Atlanta from 2001-06). I became better at reading dogs than reading defenses. That’s just so sad to say right now, because I put more time and effort into trying to master that pursuit than my own profession … which was my livelihood … which put food on the table for my family.”

Vick also said he thought about lying his way through the entire ordeal but eventually felt guilty and described the pain the dogs felt as “all my fault.” Many supporters of Vick insist that he did not directly have a hand in the dogfighting rings but simply funded everything for his friends, but his comments prove that is flawed reasoning. Does he speak out against animal cruelty now simply to repair his image? That’s part of it, but the book further proves that Vick was more than just the cash that kept the machine working smoothly.

  • what? why? did you want someone to blame the dogs for your ignorance an barbaric behavior? I know you thought that being the guy that brutally trained dogs to tear one another apart that that would somehow make you a bigger star?
  • you talk like a person that never did anything wrong, i am wondering where your motivation for saying this, is any diffrent than his. he used dogs , you are using them also to give validation to cover up your racist attitude.
  • "racist"? what did they say that was racist? Oh! I see so no matter how heinous the crime, he is truly innocent because of his race? Is that your moronic argument? Seriously?
  • You are the only one who mentioned race so YOU are the only racist writing comments here. We don't care what color Vick is, we care about his disgusting crimes (that he didn't begin to pay what he should have). The rest of us are concerned about the animals who were abused and killed by Vick. YOU show no feelings towards the dogs that died because of VICK! So jimdixi4 is a racist and an animal hater. How does it feel to be called names now?
  • you think that people are stupid, and that you can use covert and cleverly disquised comments to cover up your true feelings , but know that there are people who are gifted to easily see what your true feelings are. the wonder of communication is that thru the use of choice words one can say anything and deceive people, so take this as food for thought, and at least be honest with youself, because you are not honest with us.
  • isn't that exactly what you're doing. Oh, and it'ss "through" not thru. If you're going to attempt to be a smart ass about spelling, you might want to check yours first. You clearly don't analyze what message you try to deliver by seeing if it applies to you first. You have yet to disprove anyone elses point and you're stating that everyone bashing Vick is really supporting..haha...people these days...my god! :P
  • Everybody does some wrong, but not everyone's wrong doing is along the like of KILLING for FUN. How is it so hard for people to comprehend this? And like everyone else what at all was raciest? Hell, frances didn't even say the word black in is statement or even aknowledge his race. Why don't you explain with your little mind what was raciest at all from his statement.
  • you can,t even spell the word let alone understand your actions and feelings on the subject.
  • lol nice try. Obviously i know my own feelings, all you can do is focus on something off topic to hide your lack of understanding on proper society.
  • It was all about money with him them - dogfighting is big business - and its all about money with him now. Like most criminals, the only thing he's sorry about is getting caught. The worst part of his disgusting legacy is that almost 60 percent of dogs in pounds and kill shelters are pit and American bulldogs. This jerk made it popular for trailer trash and ghetto gangs to breed and own fighting dogs, like anything could make them cool. The dogs are paying for it, getting put down by the bucketload in shelters everywhere because they are unadoptable. I love these dogs, and will despise Michael Vick and his money-grubbing managers forever.
  • I suspect jimdixi4 is black and doesn't believe dogfighting should be a crime. Just sayin...
  • i knew eventually a represenative would speakout, and for your information i am not black. i just call things what they are. now if what you just said is not racist, "all cats are black, all people looks are alike, and all people behinds are shape alike. see if you can figure that out.
  • Of course he does. His smile is neither sincere nor is it convincing.
If you want to convince me, Vick, then donate 50% of your wages for the next ten years to any recognized animal care society.
Until you are ready to atone for your sins, get out of football.
  • He's not even worth the SH** that comes out of the dogs..... He should suffer and die just as he did to them!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I agree. He is awful and should suffer the same way they did which was horrific. No one should buy his book and it is a joke that he even wrote a book. I would only respect him if he did the book to help educate others on not harming animals and the proceeds all went to animal rescue. I hope no one purchases his book. He knew what he was doing.
  • If you really want to get nauseous, read the crap on the Today show about him being on the Road to Redemption. He's managed to work God, his childhood exposure to dogfighting, and promoting his book all in one article, thanks to some idiot staffer at Today. Road to redemption? Road to money, Vick. I agree with you tammycat, and hope everyone boycotts his book.
  • SH** CAN AND IS USED FOR FERTILIZER, AND CAN MAKE THINGS GROW.
  • you should do the same thing. you're an idiot!!!! you should suffer and die while you're being stupid. So I guess all of your ancestors that killed Blacks and treated them worse than dogs should serve the same fate as you did to them. Hanging them from trees and raping their women. Really he killed a dog your people killed Humans. I am not saying what he did was right but neither what your people did was right either. But some of you care more about animals than Blacks.
  • Nobody is saying kill his kids or family for his wrong doing, he should have real punshiment for his crimes. Not some short bs prison stint like all other celeberties. Your refernce is ignorant. Black or white doesn't matter, normal everyday people end up in jail way longer than that low life. And besides what does being black have to do with it anyways? If you think "no one cares about blacks" or that this is all because he is black, wouldn't that statement be invlaid because of his short prison time and being able to play for the NFL as if he really is a proper role model? His easy going "punishment" and rewards to openly be welcomed back into the NFL after throwing it away by doing his bs seems the opposite of your statment. How do these ignorant comments of his race and supposed unjust punsihment keep coming up. When you bring up that him being black as your defense against others real logic and reasoning, you prove you are just a small minded idiot with no proper sense of justice and fairness, or any understanding of the law that applies to all people of all races. You're literally saying that black people like should get an even easier punshiment for killing simply for being black? Some educated people just care about fair justice and NOT supporting some coward who kills and tortures innocent things for "FUN" if you're really supporting people who do that I really hope you have no kids.

    -a normal mind
  • its me again. you got on the right foot, but then you stuck your foot into your mouth. only one team would give vick a chance, every one else passed on him. explain why. again he was sentenced according to the laws and statues on the books. it certainly not vicks fault that the law is so lenient, so you are vented your anger at the wrong one. you seem to be a intelligent person, but you are too biased by something else.
  • Umm really? first just because I dont agree with vick or fall for the "everyones against blacks" bs isn't being biased. idk where you even get that from like much of your other well thought out ideas. the fact that hes even allowed to be accepted by even one team is being lienent. the nfl i thought was about well rounded people who worked for the sport and hold it first, not second to crime. that was my point... lindsay lohan and paris hilton crash cars and flee the scene multiple times and get caught with cocain and they don't even go to jail, normal person jail time right off the bat. like my point about vick getting the most miniscule sentencing. I guarentee you can find many cases of longer sentencings for people on the same boat as him. you're really a pointless person to explain things to when you can't even look/comprehend the full picture before you start replying your ignorace to everyone else. im literally just laughing at all your comments.
  • More trying to attach his savagery to race? Bull, Jardona. You come across as the real racist in this column.
  • Studying dogs? Give me a break. It doesn't take a book to teach cruelty and cowardice. I guess he learned that in his old neighborhood. This guy is a pile of dog@!*% and should be treated as such. He doesn't feel guilty at all. It's just a ploy to keep the money coming in. He is a true sociopath. All you supporters out there. Great role model for kids. Who do you want to support next? Wife beaters? Drug dealers? Serial rapists? Are you the same supporters that are defending Sandusky? This guy deserves no forgiveness because he isn't sorry.
  • it so easy to see that you too are a racist, and a coward that kick people when they are down. how do you know how he feels? sounds like you may have beat and killed a few since you know how he feels. you should apply for gods job!
  • "Kick people when they are down"?? Since when, in the past two years, has MV been "down"?? I'd say a huge contract with Nike and $100 million contract with the Eagles is hardly "down"? Poor MV? ... I doubt it. And since when does being throughly disgusted with someone who meted out the kind of cruelty that MV dealt toward his "losing" dogs become racist???
  • Who cares and I hope no one buys your book. Toss it on the pile with Reille Hunter.
A certain percentage of your pay from now until you die should be sent to different pit bull rescue groups.
Add your name to the list of NFL players with a prison record.
  • it is because of people that think like you, and talk like you, that there are hate groups. i bet you do do not even like peanut butter and jelly, and hate the people that do. the first thing you said was " who cares". that tells me that you need a crash course on simple "down to earth caring".
  • Oh yes, righteous indignation creates hate groups. Please, tell us where Vick's down to earth caring was when he was forcing dogs to savagely attack each other for his entertainment and sport?
  • Perhaps as part of Mr. Vick's redemption process he would like to donate the proceeds of his book to a respected Bully Dog Rescue group. I've never heard of him making any restitution along those lines though he set the bar for dogfighting and the rescuers get to try and help the dogs who are still being victimized.
  • Agreed! So many rescue groups all over the country are working overtime for Pitties and other "bully" breeds because of overpopulation (when dogfighters breed for 1 or 2 "alphas" what happens to the other 7-9 puppies?), dog fighting, abominable cruelty, abandonment, lack of adopting homes due to the "bad rap" these dogs get, and the final insult - BSL. These dogs are VICTIMS of truly evil people, who destroy dogs for profit and entertainment. Andrew Carnagie left his entire estate to charity. MV would do well to follow his example by supporting bully rescue groups, as well as the HSUS and ASPCA programs to end dog fighting and rescue fighting dogs who would otherwise be summarily destroyed.
  • Face it Vick, if you did not get caught you would still be murdering defenseless animals. You changed because you had to not because you wanted to. Sorry, I don't believe any of your Bull that you changed.

Once a loser, always a loser.
  • Totally agree! May he be eternally haunted by the dogs he killed.
  • Right back at ya jimdixi...you sure are showing your stupidity. If Vick really felt remorseful, all proceeds from this book would go to an Animal Rescue...of ANY kind. He has all kinds of excuses, just like any other con I've met...it's never THEIR fault..always someone elses. Being a grown-up means taking responsibility for your actions, not blaming them on someone or something else.
  • Agreed completely. Well said, firesidchat.
  • firesidechat, i had posted that vick should give all proceeds from the book to animal rescue. i don,t know why it didn,t show up. and just because a person does not agree with your views does not equate stupidity, or don,t you know that?
  • A large percent of EVERYTHING that this lowlife excuse for a man makes playing football and 100% of profits from this book should go to pit bull rescue. Talk is cheap Vick!!!! Don't tell me how sorry you are--show me.
  • Fully agree with the comments. Vick is a horrid person and please help me understand why anybody would put more money in his pocket by buying his book. The money would be better spent on a book called Inside the Criminal Mind. This man is a psychopath.
  • Michael Vick is now coming out with a book called Finally Free on September 4th. Would this be like OJ coming out with a book after we all know he killed his wife and her friend. He now says that he could have lied but didn't. We all know that if he thought someone would be stupid enough to believe him YES he would have lied. He has no remorse for what he did and the fact that he is still allowed to play a game that young people will see well we are showing crime and cruelty pays with big bucks. How can a game be more important than those animal lives-we live in a twisted world when we allow football players to kill people and animals. When will someone wake up and know that football is a brutal sport and so are the players.
  • Vick can say he is sorry, but cruelty to animals is a crime that has no defense. He may be a good football player, but he is sub human and that cannot be fixed. He is beyond redemption. He makes me sick.
  • As far as I'm concerned he is not a good football player!!!! He is a loser and will always be a loser!!
  • Vick doesn't even rise to the level of pond scum. He is a liar, a cheat and a abuser of animals. Anyone who buys his book is contributing to the lining of the pockets of this jerk. Served his time you say? Hopefully he will at least realize that he is a total waste of skin when he meets his maker. Get a grip Vick.
  • And who buys Mike Vick clothing. ARE YOU KIDDIN ME? I would buy a chew toy for my dog that looks like MVick.
  • nope, sorry, u did what u did not only for the money, (which is pretty greedy in and of itself considering u were a pro football player at the time, and financially speaking u guys don't do to shabby to run up and down grass, throwing and cathing a spinning ball)but for power and control. it's the name of the sport besides money. i've witnessed illegal dog fights with pitbulls as well as illegal **** fights where the roosters wear the razzors strapped to their tallons.
dogs love us humans more than they love themselves and life itself. sadly, ppl like u give breeds like this a bad name, it's not the breed that misbehaves mr. vick, it's ppl like u that train them.
fortunately, i will most likely never meet u face to face, i wouldn't ask for your autograph as in my eyes it isn't worth the piece of paper u wrote it on. i would however, not even hesitate for starters to slap the taste out of your mouth!u got off leniently, u should have been banned from pro football permanently as well as ever owning a dog again.
  • There are a couple comments about people disliking Vicks behavior. They called those people racists. What the hell does racist have to do with thinking he's a piece of crap. It doesn't matter his gender, race, religion, etc. He will never suffer the pain he put the dogs through. "Finally Free" in actuality are the poor animals he put through hell.
  • I don't normally post anything on these articles out on the web but this mother f***** is a thorn in my a**!!!!!! I couldn't even read the whole article, I wouldn't dedicate that much time to this low life piece of crap that should have been punished the same way he punished those dogs. What did they ever do to him to deserve the evil acts he brought upon them?!?! Learning about dogs, reading dogs...give me a break, he's a lying piece of dirt!!! All this jerk was interested in was the money he was making off those poor dogs...I am so glad that at least the ones that were rescued have had a chance to know what it is like to be a loved pet. I wouldn't buy his f****** book to line a rat cage with!!!
  • burn in hell vick.
  • There is a truly a double standard that exist when a White person commits a crime vs. an African American in American society. I will say that killing any dog or animal for any reason is TOTALLY WRONG AND UNACCEPTABLE!!! I would also like to point out that African Americans as well were apalled by Michael Vicks conduct toward animals. However, it's perfectly socially acceptable when a White man goes out with his sons to go out hunting elk, bears, and turkeys. Sport, tradition or transition to manhood are the warped reasoning or excuses given for committing these EQUALLY CRUEL VICIOUS acts toward innocent defenseless animals! What's the difference guys??? Stop being hypocrits and PURPOSEFULLY overly critical of people of other ethnic groups because there are things that are committed within your race that you know good and damn well is totally unacceptable! Aren't we suppose to be a nation thats known for giving people a second chance??? I'm just saying my melanin deprived Anglo Saxin friend..... God Bless America!
  • Deliberately torturing and brutalizing an innocent animal? You don't get a second chance with me...I don't care if you're purple with pink stripes.
  • I certainly hope you are a vegetarian. And did he not get a 2nd chance, he is pictured with his own f***ing line of clothing. Geez he is pro QB.
How much more of a 2nd chance does he need? If he doesn't want people like me ranting about him, perhaps the antisocial needs just stick with football.
One more thing, You can never compare hunting (did he eat them) to dropping a small dog (family pet) in with the fighting dogs.
  • finally another sensible person speaks. anyone with normal sane reasoning can sense what the motivation is why all thse bad things are being said. when will they learn that black people are no longer afraid to call it black or white , right or wrong.
  • Such a Sad representation to our Youth of tomorrow............literally got away with murder of many dogs....If he is truely seeking retribution......start donating some of that hard knocks income to Rescue orgainizations...........working wth a small rescue in eastern North Carolina, sadly we see the same all the time..........I say Mr. Vick put your $ where your mouth is as you have NO Heart
  • There is something wrong with someone that could hurt and torture animals. Something I don't think that can be fixed.
  • this is disgusting, the fact that Modell's is promoting him, I will never shop there again.
  • I agree that dog fighting is wrong. but I do not see this much hatred or concern when a child has been treated lik a dog, being chained up and not fed. We need to get our priorities straight. Yes, He was wrong, he has served his time lets move on.
  • You must be a former inmate. They all have that "oh well, that was yesterday, so it doesn't count" attitude. This isn't about kids (and you don't get out much if you think no one's concerned over kids). This is about a dirt-bag who made dog-fighting popular, and is still making money off it. Spend some time with me in a dog shelter where I have to euthanize many of these dogs every week because they are unadoptable, regardless of their personality. THAT is Vick's legacy. It's not over by a long shot.
  • again another sane person.
  • I love animals so much, and do all I can to help the most abused breed, the pit bulls. I understand the anger in all of the above comments. Hopefully, the man has changed... however, it cannot be forgotten what he has done. And more importantly, he and any family he lives with should not be allowed to own a dog, or for that matter- any other pet. I recall a horrid scene that I cannot get out of my head- when Michael Vick shoots a dog that is trying to get out of the fighting ring, crying with a hind limb dangling from it. Vick laughs in front of friends, when he shoots at the poor, poor thing.
  • But, he was just STUDYING the dog....right. Also, didn't the article say he wasn't involved, just funded his friends? Oops, another lie..surprise, surprise.
  • lol!
  • It is not the breed it is the owners of animals that make them the way they are. MV abused these animals and made them the way they are. People have minds and know the difference between right and wrong, animals do and behave the way their owners make them. MV was wrong with what he did!!!! The only thing that went wrong here was he got caught!!! If he hadn't he would most likely still be killing animals!!!
  • Guess he was not so good at "reading dogs" was he? There are other "scenes" I cannot get out of my mind, either. It breaks my heart to know that so many potentilly lovely dogs died so violently. (Let us not forget those unknown dogs, of any breed, who died as "training" or "bait" dogs for MV's fighting dogs.) Dogfighting is SO wrong in SO many ways. It has NO PLACE in a civilized society, and MUST END.
  • Amazing, many of you are giving so much sympathy and making excuses for George Zimmerman. AND HE KILLED A HUMAN BEING! But wait! He is not black! You are pathetic and suffer from the God complex....Get over yourselves!

  • another sane person.
  • What a joke! He writes a book and makes more money off the dogs?
Nothing different about him now, same as he was when he got caught, just a way to try to rationalize what he did. I own a pit bull and if ever any one hurt hin, well it would be the last pit bull they hurt. Vick is a total waste of god given talent. Some things can not be fixed and he is one of them! One more thing, only a low life like Vick would buy Vick clothing!
  • It makes me ill that ths guy is making obscene amounts of money after what he did. Apologists complain because there was less public condemnation for Donte Stallworth. My view is that Stallworth never set out to cause any harm. He made a terrible, terrible mistake that cost someone their life. He should feel horrible. Vick knowingly bankrolled an illegal gambling operation which caused pain and death for countless dogs and participated in the execution of dogs. I feel ill everytime I think about what Vick did.

Vick's main PR problem is that he only stopped because he got caught. He says he is sorry regrets what he did, but how are we to believe that? If he'd never gotten caught, would he still be operating?
  • Michael Vick should still be in prison for what he did.
SHAME on the NFL for taking him back after he was released.
Why should he be able to walk out of prison and into a multi million dollar job. There are so many ex-con's out there that would love to have any job and cant get one. Now he is going to write a book about what he has done and make money from that because everyone knows that there will be STUPID people out there that will buy it. I think he should have some electrodes place on his $^&(O(&^%$# and turn up to refry. Shame on you Micheal Vick and Shame on anyone that thinks he has served his time. The dogs that he abused are still serving their time.
  • I am appalled at some of our Nation's sons and daughters each time they share their thoughts. It is purely racist, and it comes out whenever issues like this coming up. I even heard similar statements when Lebron James changed teams. Listen you hypocrites, each time you kill a mosquito, you kill an animal. What is the fascination with dogs in the mind of White people??? Should I accept your logic that your dog is more important than an insects or spiders that we all kill daily? I dont accept that. To me it is the same. And you let your nasty dogs go up and lick people in the parks. Not everyone loves dogs like White people do. Gosh, get over your racist attitudes toward Michael Vick. He is a good brother, but you are only angry because he is not a good n*gger, and you cannot control him.
  • There ya go Vick...there's 1 person who'll buy your book.
  • You will buy it too, wont you? Ya push over!
  • Not if it was the last thing on Earth to read. You couldn't pay me enough money to read his garbage.
  • i will buy his book
  • There ya go Vick..there's 1 person to buy your book. Don't spend it all in one place!
  • another sane person, just leave the "n" word off.
  • I think that it is hypocritical for all of the people who didn't want his professional career to influence the amount of time that he did in prison...and it didn't. But now that he has done his time, he still hears all the crap people talk. When a criminal gets out of prison, for committing an crime, no one says that they shouldn't get a job, or still bitches at them for it. What he did was WRONG, I agree, but he has taken steps after being released to correct and show remorse for what he did, more than any rapist does to correct their wrongs, and yet there are people working around you, living around you, and you'd rather bash on Vick for killing dogs. Again, I love animals, dogs especially, I have two that are the most loyal I've ever had, and I can't imagine someone being able to do what he did, but the fact is he's a great athlete and I'm happy he's part of the E-A-G-L-E-S.
  • Leilani, I agree with you, the reason he is so sorry and remorseful is becuse he got caught. He isnt sorry for what he did he is sorry he got caught.
Eli1234, My feelings towards Vick isnt racial, I would feel this way about anyone that did what he did to dogsor any animal. These dogs that he abused are still suffering from what he did. Most of them had to give their lives because of what he has done. I am totally for the idea that they should do to him or anyone that abuses anmials what they did to the animal. You know the old saying "A eye for an eye. Tooth for a tooth."
  • If MV had gotten so "good at reading dogs" why did he kill at least 9 of them (9 corpses found on his property) for failing to fight? And, judging by the updates on the appx 50 "Lost Dogs" that were rescued, rehabilitaed and placed, all but maybe one or two probably would have been killed, either in the ring or by his hand, as so many have been lovely, sweet and friendly - even with other dogs. So many have taken years to recover, and some may never lead a life with a family in a home of their own. A few come up for adoption now and then, and I rejoice every time I see another one adopted into a loving home. I cried when Leo died, and recently when Ellen died. Such lovely spirits! It is a profound tragedy that MV could not see the true treasure in his own back yard! I keep hoping that he will "put his money where his mouth is" and dedicate the proceeds from his book or $100 million contract to the HSUS or ASPCA programs for busting fighting kennels, rescuing "fight bust" dogs, or educating inner city kids to engage in constructive competition with their dogs. If he does such a thing, and saves 1,000 dogs for every one he killed - I guess THEN I will give him credit for having changed.
  • There is something seriously imbalanced with anyone who could enable and participate in the kind of abuse that Mr. Vick did. We all make mistakes, and forgiveness should be for all; but there should be consequences for our actions. While he spent time in prison as his "pennance", Mr. Vick needs help. His attempts to "speak out against animal cruelty" seem to be a thin veiled attempt to change his image, for his own benefit. Someone with his lack of respect for life is frightening; this time dogs....what about next time. I'm no one of importance, but for what it's worth, while I struggle to forgive I cannot forget. And I would ask, what IS the purpose of his autobiography? Are the proceeds going to help in the fight of animal cruelty???
  • It can be FORGOTTEN what he has done once he's realized how wrong he was. He didnt see dogs as human beings; he saw them as expendable things to be used for entertainment. This may seem cruel, but there are millions that STILL feel the same way about pits AND sadly - animals. Pits have killed thousands of human beings, but no one on this sight says a thing about that! They'd rather jump on the BLACK HUMAN and try their HARDEST to discourage him - jump on the "human" that has so much more potential than a dog! The self righteous people on this sight are truly AMAZING! Theyre so preoccupied with how GREAT & GOOD they are - they CANT even delve into how to encourage a fellow human that has messed up. The self righteousness is astounding!! By the way they are posting they'd prefer to see Vick dead! These self righteous posters convince me more and more that the Bible is TRUE and ACCURATE; these people are sooo in love with themselves that they don't see there own personal HORRID sins! They need a scapegoat to puff their egos up. M.V doesnt need to spend his whole life defending dogs to satisfy his self righteous HATERS - why? cuz they'll NEVER be SATISFIED! The HATE is way too consuming and life supportive for them. He could be TRULY sorry and they would NEVER know it. They DON'T CARE to know it! They'd rather see him LYNCHED, all the while with content self righteous smiles on their faces.
  • Let me tell you about racist...All my life I was racist, I fought it off as part of my ongoing purge of bad habits and notions. Mostly I disliked any person who was black because I was taught this, I guess from birth. As a young man I made a choice that caused me to get some prison time, I was guilty but not guilty as accused. Nevertheless I served my time and as yet it seems I still owe society because I am punished to this day because of one transgression. I guess if I could do something as wonderful as play football I too could forget my past and be treated with respect but all I can do is build homes from the ground up, now I am retired I work at making wooden articles to sell online. Yes if I could play football I would be forgiven and welcomed nation wide. I get so sick of hearing how rough a black person has it. I went to work at 8 years old so I could go to school and help out my family. At times my shoes were handmedowns if I was lucky enough to have shoes. I think nothing of any of that, it is just the way things were, no one owes me anything because I had it tough. And neither does anyone owe you because you are black, brown yellow or green either for that matter. Mike Vick is fortunate and I do not begrudge him his success, I do however dislike this double standard about race issues I read on here. This man killed defenseless animals, money and race got him a light sentence. The ongoing greed from professional football teams gave him a chance other people are denied who actually produce something tangible and life supporting. I do not hate him because he is black, I only dislike him because he is worthless as a human being and does not have to aern respect but it is thrown at him because he is black and can excell at a sport. There are other graet athletes who have done more for the sport
  • i can appreciate what you have said, and agree with most of what you said. but money has always ruled this world and shaped it thus so. as a human being i nor you can say that he is worthless as a human being. lets waity and see how his story pans out,i think it might surprise some folks
  • I Really don't understand all the anger, what he did was wrong he took ownership of his deeds and did his time. As far as saying he wouldn't of quit had he not been caught isn't that true of most every bad activity leagl or illegal until there is consequences we as humans won't usually change our behavior. We shouldn't hate or demonize anyone this way if he stays clean and out dog fghting then why don't we point at it as an example where the justice system worked he was caught punished and stopped the illegal activity as a result.
  • another sane rational person.
  • this p o s should be in jail and he just proves how broken the NFL is, they need to change their name to No Felon Left behind! I pray every Sunday the Eagles will lose and Vick will get hurt. The Eagles need to dump him and so does the NFL!
  • you are no diffrent than vick was.
  • The thing about MV is when he talks about being sorry the smug look on his face screams the fact that he isnt sorry. He is just trying to cover over what he got caught at doing. Lke I stated before he is sorry ONLY because he got caught.
@proceed, someone needs to defend the dogs that he killed and hurt for their natural lives. Cause people like you and MV and a few other sure arent going to defend them. You are spouting about the bible. In case you havent read other parts of the it. Even DOGs are god's creatures and deserve to be treated as such.
  • I can't believe some people want to make this issue about race. The only reason you use race is because you can't let it go, you use it as an excuse to protect your own weakness in life. As for Vick, he doesn't deserve to be where he is, he is a low life and looking to make more money off his criminal activity. He makes me sick. I rescued a Pit/lab mix 7 yrs. ago who already had her ears completely cut off to prepare her as a bait dog. I look at her everyday and realize how fortunate I am to have this loving girl whose never so much as growled at anyone. Her life with Vick would have been over a long time ago. Vick is an adult who made his choices and I don't care what damn color he is, it's not applicable.
  • Proceed...the reason pit bulls kill people is because of losers like MV. They are not born this way, thugs like MV train them to kill. Making a mistake is something you do without thought, like buying the wrong brand of toothpaste. Spending years killing and torturing helpless animals took lots and lots of thought, pre-meditation and a very sick mind. This is not a black thing, if he was white, I'd find his actions just as digusting. Stop blaming the dogs, it's not their fault!!
  • AGREED, Everyone likes to blame the dog. It seems everytime there is a dog attack everyone is real fast to blame the dog breed. What about the owner that trained the dog to be that way. EVERYONE needs to blame the owner and not the dog. These breed bans are STUPID. I also agree that no matter the color of your skin if you mistreat animals like MV has. Its still disgusting and he should have go through what he put them dogs through as I explained above, whether he would been green blue purple or white, he still is a low life and dont deserve to be able to walk out of prison into a multi million dollar job. SHAME ON THE NFL, they are just a low as MV for letting him come back.
  • @proceed: "pits have killed thousands of human beings". Please provide a legitimate literary reference to back this up. According to the National Canine Research Council there were only 31 dog-bite related fatalaties (from any breed/mix) in the U.S. in the entire year 2011.

This may surprise you but the reason so many people are upset with the convicted animal abuser is because he continues to profit from his crimes. The book is a perfect example. For the folks who have donated time and money to rescue and rehabilitate the animals that survived him, it's a pretty big F U, don't you think?
  • again demand that vick give all funds received from the book go to animal rescue. use the same passion that is being demonstrated here, only leave the hate out. demand that he put his money where his mouth is. don,t use a dog to become a meaner dog yourself.
  • Vick will suffer the consequences of his actions as long as he's alive, from passionate folks that are both wrong and right in their heated deliberations....he did do wrong. But its not my job or any one else's to describe him as "worthless!" - thats STILL very RACIST!! God has done GREAT things with so-called worthless "people." Blacks and whites have their own mountains to conquer; but the mountains are different here in the USA. Whether the problem is taught (ingrained thru mental slavery or privileged upbringing - over the course of years), or through some self infliction, or sheer laziness - the answers aren't that easy to rectify. One thing for sure, racism is a trap showing how foolish & hate filled the human mind can become, and those who enter in - live the existence of the proverbial "crabs in the barrel" for all races. For all mankind! Everyone has it "rough" in their own way, when they realize there's a "way" that they must go - or else - and MOST everyone complains....its just who you choose to listen complain....MOST are never satisfied or thankful! Kudos to those who start from the unattractive bottom and work their way up....its a beautiful thing - should be lauded, no matter what your ethnicity! Michael Vick IS afforded another chance by the CREATOR, REGARDLESS of what us self-righteous prudes deem appropriate! He was RELEASED from jail to hopefully RELEASE his former way of thinking....he CAN do it!! One things for sure, he cant waste his time pleasing hate-filled naysayers. Gratitude should motivate towards a God that is MERCIFUL beyond comprehension!

Bay Area politicians have discussed Warriors parade

The Golden State Warriors lost their first playoff game in six attempts Tuesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. That loss didn’t only tie the series up at one, it gave the Grizzlies home-court advantage heading back to Memphis for the next two games. It was the Warriors first loss in Oakland since a January 27th overtime defeat against the Chicago Bulls. Despite this recent...

WATCH: Shaq trips and eats it

Shaq has been involved in plenty of hilarious moments on Inside the NBA—like when Kenny Smith shoved him into a Christmas tree. That said, what happened during halftime of Wednesday’s Clippers-Rockets game was one of his most entertaining sequences. As Shaq got up to head toward the video wall, he tripped over a microphone wire and was sent hurtling to the floor.   Down...

When Billy Donovan accepted Sam Presti’s offer to become the Oklahoma City Thunder’s head coach, two coaching positions opened up: at Florida and at USA basketball.  The former is expected to be filled sometime this summer. The latter was reportedly filled this afternoon.  According to Adam Zagoria, Arizona’s Sean Miller will take over for Donovan as the head coach of USA...

Cardale Jones responds to Joakim Noah's trash talk

The Joakim Noah vs. Ohio State feud has escalated to another level.  As we wrote earlier, the Chicago Bulls’ big man mouthed “you ain’t in the SEC” to Buckeye quarterback Cardale Jones at his team’s playoff game in Cleveland Wednesday night. OSU four-star linebacker Justin Hilliard then trolled Noah on Twitter.  We now have what we really wanted, though: a response...

Cavs show requisite desperation to make this a series

Hit us up on Twitter @CrossoverNBA Chalk another one up to the stink of desperation. Desperation in all forms of life is an un-manufacturable (fake arse word) thing. It’s the fight or flight situation in real life, or in the case of sports, the thing that makes you play like your very soul is on the line. That’s what the Cleveland Cavs had to do tonight, and you know what...

WATCH: Gronk tells media you can deflate deez nuts

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is apparently fed up with the media’s coverage of Deflate-gate. Speaking up about how the media hounded him following a charity event he took part in on Wednesday, the charismatic Super Bowl champion had one message for the media. And one message only. So yes, he wants us to deflate something other than a football. You can use...

The Big 12 football’s new tiebreaker procedure

In 2014, the Big 12 had two of the best teams in the country in Baylor and TCU. The Bears and Horned Frogs finished the season with one loss each, and played one of the most entertaining games of the year—a 61-58 Baylor win in Waco. When it came to choose the four team College Football Playoff field, however, the conference’s two powerhouses were both left at the altar in favor...

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ season should turn around soon

Following two straight NL Wild Card berths, expectations were high for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015. But thusfar, those expectations haven’t been realized. Through the first month of the season, the Pirates are 12-14, eight games back of the white-hot St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. But because of how top-heavy the National League is this season, the Pirates are solidly...
