Found October 07, 2012 on My Sports Rumors:

Many New York Giants fans, myself included, jumped out of their seats when rookie back David Wilson broke free for a 40 yard touchdown run. It was the rookies first career touchdown and a big step in getting himself out of coach Tom Coughlin’s doghouse. It was exciting and showed his amazing speed but the problem with the run is with what followed. Wilson did a backflip and I immediately yelled at the television, “WTF are you doing???” Some of Wilson’s teammates obviously felt the same way but the one who chastised him the most surprised me.

Victor Cruz was amused with David Wilson’s touchdown celebration, but warned the rookie not to do it again. Wilson punctuated his 40-yard TD – the first of his career – in the fourth quarter with a backflip.

“I told him he better not do that again,” said Cruz, who’s known for his own TD-celebrating salsas. “If he gets hurt doing that, it’s gonna be a problem . . . We don’t need him landing that on his back or anything.”

Wilson wasn’t worried, saying it’s something he’s done before. (NY Post – The Blue Screen)

Cruz became famous not for his production but for his own end zone celebration. Yes, Cruz’s production would have made him a star but the dance is what made the fans love him. So hearing Cruz be the one to yell at Wilson kind of surprised me. I know, I know the salsa dance doesn’t risk injury like the backflip. I just found it interesting that Cruz was the one to step up and say something.

“It’s just something I learned when I was real young,” said Wilson, who finished with two carries for 44 yards, along with four kickoff returns for 54 yards. “When I was drafted, one of the commentators said, ‘I can’t wait to see you do a backflip after you score.’ So I just did it that one time for him. You might see it again.” (ESPN)

Wilson’s not worried but hopefully he listens and doesn’t do it again.

In other NFL news, Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin suffered a concussion on this play.

1 Comment:
  • Cruz is right, his salsa dance won't get him injured...he does it to pay homage to his deceased Grandmother who taught him the dance as a boy. I'm on record as saying Wilson will be a legit NFL back with crazy mad talent, but he needs to remember that he is a rookie and hasn't earned a thing yet. But I have to admit that the 40 yard run is what I've been expecting from him all along.

Fantasy advice live: finding value on the bye weeks

This week presents fantasy owners with their first true challenge since the draft. In great likelihood you have 1, 2 or more starters enjoying a week off this week leaving you scrambling to make starter choices from your bench, or, from the waiver pool. New York Giants Provide Early Drama But Win 41-27 Over the Browns

TweetThe New York Giants give their fans an early scare against the Cleveland Browns. They were down 17-7 in the first quarter, I'm sure it had some fans wondering if the team was going to make this a close one.No disrespect to the Browns but I personally wasn't nervous, just upset that New York found themselves down against what many consider to be the worst team in the...

Switch pitcher could see action in MLB

29-year-old New York Yankees minor leaguer Pat Venditte normally wouldn’t be a player worth noticing. He’s been in the minors for the past seven seasons after the Yankees selected him in the 45th round of the 2007 amateur draft.  On the surface, Venditte is nothing more than your non-prospect who has bounced around in small towns in an attempt to make it to the Majors. That’s...

Hard to believe, but Mark Townsend of Yahoo Big League Stew reports that a high school “Rubber Baseball” game in Japan went a full 50 innings, or 5.6 full length games before being decided 3-0 (no scoring the first 49 innings).  The winner was Chukyo High School over Sotoku in the tournament semifinal game. Some of the stats are almost too much to be true.  According to Townsend...

Oakland Raiders fielding oldest roster in NFL

The Raiders spent the offseason loading up on a slew of veteran talent, a calculated effort to inflate their win total. To nobody's surprise, it's subsequently inflated the team's collective age. Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com, doing some calculations following Saturday's final roster cutdowns, deduced that Oakland has the oldest roster in the NFL. The average age...

Report: Sam clears waivers, can join an NFL practice squad

ST. LOUIS — Michael Sam was probably never an ideal fit with the St. Louis Rams and it had absolutely nothing to do with his sexual orientation. They’re just too well-stocked at defensive end, Sam’s position. Sam showed up for his face-to-face exit meeting with coach Jeff Fisher Sunday, a few hours after clearing waivers. He shook hands with two reporters and accepted well...
