It's a good sign when a team was expected to sign a quarterback, but instead decides to hold off for now due to new developments.
Free agent quarterback Vince Young worked out for the Oakland Raiders on Thursday and reportedly made quite an impression.
Young had a good pro-day workout in Texas last month that put his name back on the map, but now he may have put himself in the running for the starting quarterback position on the Oakland Raiders.
According to Chris Wesseling of NFL.com, Young’s workout impressed the Raiders brass, and may even cost fellow quarterback Seneca Wallace a job. Wesseling writes:
‘Young will have to prove that he's made strides in accuracy and picking up NFL verbiage, but he does have the rise of the read-option offense in his favor as he attempts his comeback. The Raiders opted to take a pass on signing Seneca Wallace as a backup quarterback, perhaps due to their interest in Young.’
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport tweeted:
“Interested to hear that Vince Young was among the QBs that worked out for #Raiders yesterday. So did Troy Smith. Heard Vince looked good.”
According to the National Football Post, former Raider’ quarterback JaMarcus Russell is drawing very little interest and his comeback could soon be over before it started. From what we’ve heard, there has been very little interest in quarterback Jamarcus Russell, and it seems unlikely at this point that he’ll get another chance. The biggest issue is Russell still is overweight...
The Oakland Raiders acquired Matt Flynn from Seattle but continue to seek viable backups. Currently the Raiders have Terrelle Pryor as the most likely option behind Flynn.
The Raiders had recently been linked to Seneca Wallace but opted against giving him a contract.
On Wednesday the Raiders worked out Vince Young and Troy Smith.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport Young “looked...
In the last few days the Raiders signed a pair of cornerbacks – former first round pick Mike Jenkins formally of the Cowboys and last year’s nickel corner in Silver and Black Joselio Hanson. The two corners join previous free agent addition Tracy Porter, who signed with Oakland last week.
The Raiders have also added a couple of safeties in former Bengals FS Usama Young...
According to the Contra Costa Times, Oakland Raiders wide receiver Jacoby Ford will not be charged by the district attorney’s office after being pulled over last month for suspicion of DUI.
Ford, 25, was arrested March 14 at 5th and Union streets in Oakland after California Highway Patrol officers pulled him over for having tinted windows so dark officers could not see inside the...
We shared on Wednesday that running back Rashad Jennings and safety Reggie Smith announced the world via social media that they had agreed to contracts with the Raiders. Whatever amount of doubt arose only because the Raiders hadn’t said anything yet.
Well, it’s all official now. The Raiders announced the signings on Thursday.
Jennings, second string behind Maurice Jones-Drew...
Former Seahawks and Browns backup quarterback Seneca Wallace has agreed to join the Oakland Raiders. SOURCE: Jason LaCanfora, CBS SportsFantasy Spin:Wallace had been in contention for the backup job in Seattle but he eventually lost out to Brady Quinn. Now Wallace will serve as an insurance policy to Matt Flynn, who the Raiders acquired via trade earlier this offseason. He didn&...
On Wednesday the Ravens announced the signing of linebacker Rolando McClain. McClain was cut lose by the Raiders recently after on and off the field issues.
The deal between the Ravens and McClain is worth $700,000 and includes incentives for playing-time.
McClain was drafted by the Raiders with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft. He has struggled in passing situations and...
The JaMarcus Russell train back to the NFL has slowed down a bit if not derailed in the past few days. Russell has canceled his pro day and instead will focus on trying to secure workouts with teams.
There were different reports floating around in regards to the Bears and Cardinals both or mutually having interest in Russell.
Both organizations wasted no time in refuting those rumors...
The Raiders have reportedly agreed to a deal with quarterback Seneca Wallace, first reported by CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora.
With Matt Flynn the presumptive QB1 heading into the season, Wallace will likely battle Terrelle Pryor (aka Seneca Wallace with size) to be Flynn’s top understudy. Unless, of course, the Raiders decide pick up a QB in the draft, which all three of those...
Former Jaguars RB Rashad Jennings announced via his twitter account that he’s signing with the Oakland Raiders.
Jennings actually worked out for the Raiders earlier in the day, so it’s not all that surprising that a deal came together.
Oakland also met with the Bernard Scott on Wednesday, but they apparently felt better about the idea of signing Jennings. The Raiders have actually...
