It's a good sign when a team was expected to sign a quarterback, but instead decides to hold off for now due to new developments.

Free agent quarterback Vince Young worked out for the Oakland Raiders on Thursday and reportedly made quite an impression.

Young had a good pro-day workout in Texas last month that put his name back on the map, but now he may have put himself in the running for the starting quarterback position on the Oakland Raiders.

According to Chris Wesseling of NFL.com, Young’s workout impressed the Raiders brass, and may even cost fellow quarterback Seneca Wallace a job. Wesseling writes:

‘Young will have to prove that he's made strides in accuracy and picking up NFL verbiage, but he does have the rise of the read-option offense in his favor as he attempts his comeback. The Raiders opted to take a pass on signing Seneca Wallace as a backup quarterback, perhaps due to their interest in Young.’

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport tweeted:

“Interested to hear that Vince Young was among the QBs that worked out for #Raiders yesterday. So did Troy Smith. Heard Vince looked good.”

  • I'm happy for Young. I'd be happier if the Cardinals would have brought him in for a look. I will be thoroughly disgusted with the Cardinal mismanagement if they miss on Young, especially if he works out to be better than expectations. But I will be happy for Young. He deserves his second chance, and sounds like he could get it in black and silver.
