Ndamukong Suh has been criticized by many different sources, but he has generally had the support of the Detroit Lions organization. His coaches have backed him and so have his teammates. Until now. Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports quoted an anonymous teammate of Suh who was critical of the defensive lineman’s behavior. “Yeah, we’re loaded,” the anonymous player told Cole following Detroit’s last-second loss to the Colts on Sunday. “But we have a couple of guys who don’t understand what it takes to win. Just making a couple of plays and thinking that makes you great … sometimes you want to just shake some of these guys and say, ‘Don’t you get it?’” The player reportedly told Cole that Suh would be first on the list of Lions players who doesn’t understand what it takes to win. “He’s focused for 90 percent of the time,” a teammate said. “But it’s the 10 percent that kills you. … With [Suh], he loses his cool and all of a sudden we’re blowing a play or dealing with some contr

Ndamukong Suh, Lions Don’t ‘Understand What It Takes to Win,’ Says One of His Teammates

Ndamukong Suh is one of the most physically talented players in the NFL. He’s gifted and has the physical skills — enormous size with speed and quickness to go along with it. Yet, Suh has by and large underachieved in his young NFL career, making headlines for just about everything other than finding success on the football field. In fairness, however, underachieving goes hand...

Lions' Stafford frustrated by losing season

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has no interest in talking about this year's impressive class of rookie QBs. "I think they're pretty good, good players," Stafford said without expounding any further in the final question of his short conference call with Wisconsin media Wednesday afternoon. With the Lions (4-8) set to travel to Green Bay...

Sanders curse reanimated with documentary

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz was part of a team that held Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders to 41 yards on 19 carries in the final game of the regular season 14 years ago. Schwartz was a 32-year-old defensive assistant at the time for the Baltimore Ravens, who defeated the Lions, 19-10. It was Dec. 27, 1998, a day that Lions fans will never forget...

Lions left with mishmash at wide receiver

ALLEN PARK, Mich. Sometimes a players opportunity comes from a teams desperation. The Detroit Lions started the season with a four-man rotation at receiver of Calvin Johnson, Nate Burleson, Titus Young and Ryan Broyles a superstar, a nine-year veteran and two promising second-round draft picks. That group now consists of Johnson, Mike Thomas, Brian Robiskie and Kris Durham the...

A Barry Sanders curse on Lions?

Schwartz decisions dissected in disappointing year

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By LARRY LAGE AP Sports Writer Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz says he and his staff are very self-critical of decisions they make after every game. They go through their entire game plan each week and discuss what they would do differently if the same situation comes up in another game. He says it's important for coaches...

Detroit Lions: Revisiting Last Victory at Lambeau Field

Two questions will arise this Sunday night: 1) When was the last time the Detroit Lions went into Wisconsin and took a victory? And 2) Who was the Green Bay Packers' quarterback that day?  The answers at these questions are: 1991 (the last season the Lions won a playoff game) and Mike Tomczak (yes, the same Tomczak who was a backup for Jim McMahon as a a rookie for the Chicago...

Detroit won't be an easy out for the Packers

This Sunday night, the Green Bay Packers host the Detroit Lions in a game that looks far simpler on paper than it will likely play out. The Lions have just four wins under their belt, while the Packers lead the NFC North with an 8-4 record. Having only won the four games, it's somewhat surprising that NFL football odds (click to view) only have the Lions as a one touchdown...

Sabotage a Stranger to Packers Locker Room

After intentionally lining up in the wrong spot in Detroit's loss to Green Bay last month, receiver Titus Young is no longer part of the Lions' equation. His childish antics wouldn't fly in Green Bay's carefully crafted locker room.

Close But No Cigar

The Detroit Lions entered this season with high hopes of supplanting the Green Bay Packers atop the NFC North and possibly making a run to the Super Bowl. Instead, they're left with the loser's lament of one play here and one play there en route to a crippling four-game losing streak.

Packers' WR Jennings Admires Schwartz

In spite the external stones being flung at Detroit Lions bench boss Jim Schwartz, there are still plenty of supporters. One comes in the unlikely form of a divisional foe: Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings.
