If 49ers quarterback Alex Smith is headed out of San Francisco after the season, as NFL.com reported on Tuesday, one of his potential landing spots may be Kansas City. New Chiefs coach Andy Reid, then with the Eagles, was reportedly interested in Smith following the 2011 season, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Reid "really likes Alex" ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer said on Thursday, according to the Chronicle.
"There was a courtship last year, to a certain degree," Dilfer said. If anyone has any inside information on Smith, it's Dilfer, who has a friendship with Smith that dates back to their two seasons as teammates in San Francisco (2006-07).
Although Dilfer said there was courtship, he didn't have many specific details on the situation, "I don't know a whole lot. I just know there was a courtship. It was not even an inside source, you know what I mean? It was just kind of the scuttle in the offseason," Dilfer said.
