When the Eagles decided to ink veteran safety Oshiomogho “O.J.” Atogwe, they were making a educated roll-of-the-dice.
Atogwe was cut by the Redskins earlier this year and having played against them in the 2012 season, Andy Reid and DC Juan Castillo had plenty of recent tape on him to figure out of if he was a good fit for them.

With training camp nearly a month away, there are still plenty of cuts that need to be made before the final 53-man roster is set.
Like every other team in the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles will enter camp with position battles on both sides of the ball.
They currently have tremendous depth at wide receiver, as well as the defensive line. However, the...
The Philadelphia Eagles are close to announcing the signing of free agent safety O.J. Atogwe, who spent 2011 with the NFC East rival Washington Redskins, according to reports.
Atogwe may not be the safety in shining armor that some had hoped for, but he will be an important addition for the Birds who need veteran experience at safety.
The player texted ESPN radio’s Chris Russell...
Safety Oshiomogho (O.J.) Atogwe signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and knows that he will need to hit the ground running in order to get up to speed on learning the team’s defense without the benefit of OTAs and minicamp, all of which have passed. But it’s a challenge he’s ready to face.
“I’ve been fortunate in my career to be able to pick up defenses quickly...
Why will Juan Castillo drastically improve the Philadelphia Eagles defense in 2012? Through hard work man, hard work.
Though I’m somewhat kidding, it’s partly true. Juan Castillo is, if anything, a hard working man. You could see he’s a hard worker when he picked up DeMeco Ryans at the airport, carted his bags and threw rose pedals on the ground as he...

One of the pit bulls rescued from the dogfighting ring bankrolled by Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has died.
Officials at the Best Friends Animal Society, where nearly two dozen of the Vick dogs were rehabilitated, said Ellen, an 11-year-old pit bull, was euthanized last weekend after a bout with an unknown illness that caused her to lose weight rapidly.
Ellen was considered...
It sure was a rough, rough year last season for DeSean Jackson. After two straight 1000-yard campaigns, he looked primed for a huge breakout in the Eagles high-octane attack, but that wasn’t the case as Jackson battled inconsistency and injuries and failed to haul in 60 catches or top 1000 yards in 2011.
However, entering 2012 DeSean Jackson has dropped entirely too low on draft...
I have undoubtedly heaped a lot of praise on the Philadelphia Eagles recently. It’s actually very out of character for me, whether you realize it or not. Their solid offseason and organizational changes in philosophy are things that I have chronicled well for you.
There was only one thing that kept sticking in my crawl. The one weakness that the Eagles seemed to overlook this offseason...
Dan Graziano of ESPN.com weighed in here tonight at Eagles Eye... he corrected my erroneous reference to his being employed by CBSSports.com in a recent blurgg... and wants to set the record straight.Graziano in fact blogs for the NFC bEAST... but he writes for ESPN, not CBS as I had stupidly reported...Anyhoo, Dan Graziano has something to say about the Eagles' cornerback situation...

Safety O.J. Atogwe has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Atogwe, who turns 31 on Saturday, spent last season with Washington after playing his first six seasons in St. Louis. The move was announced Wednesday.
Atogwe was a third-round pick in 2005 out of Stanford. He has 520 tackles, 25 interceptions, 5.5 sacks and 19 forced fumbles.
Atogwe provides depth...
Veteran safety O.J. Atogwe finally landed with a team for the 2012 season, agreeing to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal. The Eagles have been seeking to add a veteran safety this offseason, working out Yeremiah Bell earlier this Spring.
Atogwe is heading into his eighth season in the league and is joing his third team in three seasons. The Stanford product entered...
Nice that the 90-man roster now gets a few weeks off before make-or-break time at Lehigh in late July... You know they're hoping the current heat wave in Philly and the Northeast in general will have dissipated by then...That leaves me with a story line that comes from Optimum Scouting, a network blog which I support and which helps me out here at the Eye during draft season...
By Len PasquarelliThe Sports Xchange Seven-year veteran safety O.J. Atogwe, added this week by Philadelphia, balked at suggestions his best football is behind him. Still, Atogwe, 31, hasn't been as productive in recent seasons, and there is a reason (or at least a perception) why the Eagles will represent his third team in three seasons. That said, Philly coaches still feel...
