OT Jermon Bushrod On the surface, Bushrod is a valuable member of the Saints’ offense. He has allowed just 7 sacks in the last 2 seasons on one of the league’s most pass heavy offenses and made the Pro-Bowl last year. Pro-Bowl offensive tackles are rarely allowed to hit the open market, almost as rarely as Pro-Bowl quarterbacks. However, while Bushrod has one of the most important blindsides in the NFL to protect, he also has one of the easiest. Drew Brees doesn’t quite have Peyton Manning’s legendary pocket presence, but he’s pretty close. He essentially protects his own blindside with how well he feels the pass rush and how quickly he makes decisions and releases the ball. Brees has only taken a sack 82 times in the last 4 years on 674 pressured drop backs (12.2%), the best rate in the league over that period by who has played in all 4 seasons (sorry, Peyton Manning). A deeper look at Bushrod’s stats shows that he is really a product of Drew Brees’ abilities. Bushrod has allowed 2...

Saints’ receivers make life a Brees for Drew

Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints had one of the most prolific passing seasons ever, eclipsing Dan Marino’s 27-year-old single-season passing record in only 15 games. Brees is usually among the league’s passing leaders year in and year out, but you don’t accomplish a feat like that without quality receivers which the Saints have [...]

Saints Nation: Saints Make Numerous Roster Changes Heading into Jaguars Preseason Game

I've neglected to make light of some of the roster moves the Saints have made over the last week so I wanted to catch up on that front. On 8/6, the Saints waived CB Laron Scott (despite a nice kickoff return in the game against the Cardinals) and injured G Scott Winnewisser. To replace them in time for the Patriots game, the Saints re-signed LB Ramon Humber (pictured), who is...

Saints Nation: 2010 Should be a Lesson Not to Trade Chris Ivory

The Saints are loaded at running back and they'll likely have to cut Travaris Cadet despite his solid camp and preseason so far because they simply won't have room for him. If no other team snatches Cadet for their 53 man roster, which is entirely possible, the Saints could place him on the practice squad at that point. The Saints will likely keep four halfbacks - Mark Ingram...

Saints Bounty Scandal: Saints wiretapping investigation produces no evidence yet

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis speaks during a media availability at the team’s training facilities in April. (Matthew Hinton/Associated Press) (PhatzRadio / CBC Sports) — Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says he still has an investigator working with the FBI on wiretapping allegations involving the New Orleans Saints, but adds that no evidence has...

Brees And Vilma Leaving The Courtroom

I’ve got his back Juan… Drew Brees and Jonathan Vilma leave court where U.S. District Court Judge Ginger Berrigan heard the arguments on the NFL’s motion to dismiss Vilma’s suspension.  Brees has been very supportive during the entire process and vocal against the commissioners ruling.  Judge Berrigan told Lawyers that she wanted to rule in favor of Vilma, but wasn’t...

No ruling in Vilma vs. The NFL--For now

((ht: nola.com)) Roger Goodell on the left The curious case of Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma vs. Roger Goodell and the NFL will drag out just a bit longer. That's because a Louisiana Federal Court Judge, despite telling Vilma's attorney she'd like to grant his request for a temporary restraining order, didn't do it. Judge Ginger Berrigan held off...

Saints activate DE Smith for opener

The Saints have placed starting defensive end Will Smith on the 53-man active roster for Sunday's season-opener against the Washington Redskins. New Orleans also terminated the contract of receiver Adrian Arrington, who has struggled with a right knee injury. Smith was one of four players reinstated by the NFL Friday after their suspensions in New Orleans' pay-for-pain...

From Saints to Aints: Baseball meets atheism

ST. PAUL, Minn. As you approach Midway Stadium from the east, the Minneapolis skyline looms in the distance against the hazy August sky, at once too tall and too modern to be so close to this baseball stadium. That skyline has no business with Midway Stadium, with its train tracks and picket fences and mural-covered walls. The home of the St. Paul Saints is charmingly ramshackle...

Saints sign TE Graham, two others; waive three

The New Orleans Saints signed three players, including veteran tight end Daniel Graham, and waived three on Saturday, the Times-Picayune reported. Graham, cornerback Nick Hixson and guard Paul Fenaroli were signed by the team. Waived were linebacker Nate Bussey, guard Andrew Tiller and cornerback A.J. Davis because of injuries. Graham has been a starter for much of his 10...

NFL: Judge yet to rule on Vilma's suit against league

Suspended New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma appeared in federal court Friday, where a judge will hear arguments on the league's motion to throw out his lawsuit that would overturn his bounty suspension, according to multiple reports. U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan declined to rule on the case Friday. She told lawyers that she wanted to rule, but had concerns whether...
