The draft is over, but that does not mean the acquisitions stop. Immediately after the draft, all NFL teams got busy and signed a fair share of undrafted free agents. For the New Orleans Saints, the UDFA pool is always exciting given the team’s history of striking gold with the draft’s leftovers—Pierre Thomas, Lance Moore, Junior Galette, just to name a few. This year will be no different; here are four notable names that can make the roster and may be next in the line of undrafted stars. Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers It is amazing that this kid went undrafted. Standing 6’6” and weighing 220 pounds, Coleman is the type of big bodied receiver that many teams covet. On top of that, he runs in the 4.5 range, which is astonishing considering his size. Coleman definitely has a chance to make this team, at the bare minimum as a practice squad guy. In addition, his hands, height, and leaping ability make him a potential candidate as a replacement for the aging Marques Colston down the line. The Saints are happy he slipped through the cracks, and don’t be surprised if he makes the finals roster even with the Saints depth at the position. Matt Armstrong, C, Grand Valley State The Saints finally grab a center. After missing out on the position in the draft, the Saints go to the small school ranks and grab Armstrong from Grand Valley State, alma mater of current center Tim Lelito. Armstrong will have a real chance to make this roster since the Saints are a little thin at the interior lineman spot. Also, he has the versatility to play guard or center, which helps his chances. Chidera Uzo-Diribe, DE/OLB, Colorado The Saints are always looking for edge rushers, and Uzo-Diribe  is exactly that. When I looked at his highlights, he look an awful lot like Junior Galette with the way he gets off the line and bends to get to the quarterback. He has a relentless motor. He is definitely more of a specialist since he isn’t very good against the run. However, if he shows flashes of being able to get after the quarterback, he could sneak onto the practice squad. (On a personal note, I hope he makes the team because his name is awesome). Tim Flanders, RB, Sam Houston State It is somewhat unlikely he makes the team due the significant about of depth already on the roster at running back, but he is worth mentioning because of the insane success the Saints have had at finding undrafted running backs. Last year there was Khiry Robinson, before that Chris Ivory, and there was even Joique Bell who is contributing to the Lions after we weren’t able to keep him. And if you want to go even farther back, fan favorite Pierre Thomas was undrafted. Flanders was the workhorse while at SHS toting the rock 999 times for over 5600 yards while there. He will definitely be good enough to make the team, but the question is whether there is space for him. Besides those 4, below is a list of the rest of the undrafted free agents at the moment, with the list growing as you read: Pierre Warren SS Jacksonville State Ty Zimmerman SS Kansas State Logan Kilgore QB Middle Tennessee State Micajah Reynolds DL Michigan State Je’Ron Hamm WR Louisiana-Monroe George Uko DL New Orleans Spencer Hadley LB BYU Seantavius Jones WR Valdosta State Brian Dixon CB NW Missouri St Brandon McCray DE Louisiana-Lafayette Mike Golic Jr. OL Notre Dame Lawrence Virgil DT Valdosta State Kasim Edebali DE Boston College The post New Orleans Saints: Notable undrafted free agents appeared first on isportsweb.
