Coming off a 2009 season where he finally showed off why the Saints selected him in the first round of the 2007 draft, wide receiver Robert Meachem took a big step backward in 2010. He only had one less catch in 2010 than he did in 2009, but he touchdown total fell from 9 to 5 and total receiving yards fell by almost 100, which is surprising considering he caught roughly the same number of passes and is one of the fastest players on the team. As it turns out, his 2010 slump was due to injury. He revealed to the Sporting News this week that he underwent ankle season in February and that a tweaked ankle hampered him for a good portion of the 2010 campaign. When asked how the injury affected him on a game-to-game basis, Meachem told the Sporting News “”Pretty much every game. But that’s the deal we go through.
