The New York Jets dodged another bullet with their 30-28 win against the Atlanta Falcons. It was a stunning win for the club that was supposed to be terrible this year. Going away and playing in a hostile Atlanta stadium isn’t a walk in the park. But as we see the Falcons fold right in front of our eyes some things aren’t surprising.Head coach Rex Ryan has his players believing that they can win and be a very good team. But I’m here to tell you that they aren’t as good as their record says. They might be 3-2 but they haven’t beaten anyone good. Last night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay game could of went the other way quickly but the Jets stole the game. They have a very good defense and a pass rush that can get to the quarterback. That is what I’m very impressed with, along with the development of young rookie quarterback Geno Smith. Smith is going to be a very good player in a few years, if not sooner. However, their offense isn’t good at the moment and with n...

Geno Smith leads Jets to 30-28 Victory in Atlanta

Atlanta, Georgia - Matt Ryan doesn't lose at home, and he certainly doesn't lose back-to-back home games. At the very least, a Jets team embarrassed in Tennessee and without top wideout Santonio Holmes wasn't the team to do it. That was the popular thought before the game, but after an impressive and turnover free performance by rookie quarterback Geno Smith, the Jets...

Rex goes into detail about workings at safety

BY NICK ST. DENISRex Ryan mixes defensive players like Walter White mixes chemicals.Ryan is working with more than half a dozen new starters on defense yet is still leading a unit ranked second in the league in yards-per-game. The Jets have been exceptional up front, but the secondary has been in flux. While Gang Green has been dealing with injuries at cornerback, Ryan has taken a...

Smith throws 3 TD passes in Jets win

Geno Smith threw two touchdown passes and New York's defense came up with a couple of big plays, helping the Jets to a 20-14 lead against the Atlanta Falcons through three quarters on Monday night.

Judgment of Geno Smith coming far too soon

By now, most of us are aware of the New York Daily News’ two covers featuring Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith. Although the dates of publication are years apart, the headline is exactly the same. “A Star is Born.” In the NFL, winning is all about scoring points. Rule changes of the past decade have weakened the defense’s ability to stop opposing offenses, especially in the...

Deja Vu for New York Jets Fans?

I am quick to bash the Jets whenever the opportunity arises. What can I say--they make it easy sometimes. At  the same time I will  give credit where credit is due. On Monday night Geno Smith played a very good game. But is he a star? Absolutely not. Come folks. Let's be real here. The man has been playing professional football for five games. In those...

Geno Smith, DeSean Jackson earn Players of the Week

Geno Smith's Monday night performance not only won over critics and headline writers it also earned him the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award for Week 5. Smith completed 16 of 20 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns but it was his poise down the stretch leading the New York Jets to a 30-28 last-second victory over the Atlanta Falcons that most likely earned him the...

Holmes stays quiet after Rex Ryan suggests he'll probably miss Sunday's game

Santonio Holmes made roughly the same amount of noise in his press conference Thursday as he likely will on the field on Sunday. Rex Ryan suggested Thursday that Holmes will probably miss Sunday’s matchup against the Steelers while the wide receiver was evasive with the media a week after saying “I can’t throw it to myself and catch it otherwise I would.” “The fact he...

Rex Ryan “Mark Sanchez is not dead”

I don’t know if there was any confusion on the topic of whether or not Mark Sanchez was alive or not but Rex Ryan cleared it up. “Mark Sanchez is not dead,” the Jets’ head coach said to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. Thanks a lot Rex. The response came as a typical Rex Ryan question dodge when asked about Sanchez’s future with the Jets. “We’re acting like...

Could the New York Jets Be--Dare I Say It--Good?

It's hard for me to even say it (type it). It's even harder to think it. I can't imagine that it might be true (key word--might). But it might be true. Could the New York Jets be good? Girdsports.com Yes, I know, I have been quick to bash these guys in the past. Heck, that circus atmosphere deserved it. I have also said I have  hope for these guys if they...

Steelers-Jets Preview

Coming off what could be a defining effort in his young career, the New York Jets' Geno Smith hopes to take the next step in his development by putting up consecutive strong performances. Facing a defense that hasn't had a takeaway, Smith might be up to the task against the winless Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets look to continue their surprising start and remain undefeated...

Writing on the wall as Mark Sanchez hits IR

Florham Park, NJ – The moment the Jets drafted Geno Smith, the clock started on Mark Sanchez's time left in green and white.Late last night, his time ran out – unofficially, at least. The Jets announced late Tuesday that Sanchez underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, an injury he sustained in the third quarter of a preseason game against the New York...

Jets Steelers Preview: Jets Present Perfect Opportunity for Rebound

The Steelers are in clean-up mode. All other scenarios and plans that have anything to do with the big picture (that includes a division title) should not even be a thought in the team's current context. The Steelers need a win and they need it now. With the team coming off their bye week and the Jets fresh off their Monday Night game (which kicks off tonight), it's prime...

Week 5 picks: Jets at Falcons

Publisher Nick St. Denis, associate editor Dan Begnoche and senior contributor Sean Donovan pick the New York Jets' Monday night showdown with the Atlanta Falcons.Nick's take: Against a somewhat unstable offensive line, the Jets’ stout defensive front will get some shots at Matt Ryan. The real challenge will be keeping the star trio of Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White and...

Steelers Versus Jets: Bad Momentum Versus Good Momentum

By Jeremy Hritz Dick LeBeau’s defense has had much success against rookie quarterbacks, losing only two games against Troy Smith and the Baltimore Ravens in 2007, and in 2012 against Brandon Weedon and the Cleveland Browns. Heading into Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, LeBeau and his boys will line up across from former Mountaineer Geno Smith in hopes of not only increasing...

Jets Win! Jets Win! Jets--Wait. What?

This game was not one that too many folks had circled on their calendars as a much watch game. The Jets are still a circus and the Falcons should be able to pass for days on them. This game was not going to be entertaining. It was going to be boring. It was going to--well, suck. And I am sure glad I watched it. Gifdsports.com This game went nothing like it...
