In the wake of the numerous quarterback moves made around the league last week, one unnamed NFL General Manager told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that “these quarterbacks in this draft are going to fall like logs.” This quote comes on the heels of three specific players moving to new clubs. The Buffalo Bills signed Kevin Kolb to a two-year deal after the Arizona Cardinals released him this offseason. Buffalo previously released starter Ryan Fitzpatrick, who now backs up Jake Locker as a member of the Tennessee Titans. The Oakland Raiders acquired Matt Flynn for two future draft picks from the Seattle Seahawks, who seem to be happily content with Russell Wilson. The Arizona Cardinals acquired Carson Palmer from the Oakland Raiders, immediately after Flynn went to Oakland, to fill their void at QB. Head coach Bruce Arians named Palmer the starter last week. Taking these three teams (Bills, Cardinals, Raiders) out of the mix, the top of the 2013 NFL Draft has only a handful of candidates who would need help under center. Atop the list are the Kansas City Chiefs, who traded for San Francisco’s Alex Smith earlier this offseason. They could be content to look elsewhere. The new look Jacksonville Jaguars choose second and could be a perfect landing spot for Geno Smith, should they decide the Blaine Gabbert experiment is over. Aside from the Jags, the Eagles (fourth), Browns (sixth) and Jets (ninth) are the only other teams drafting early in April who could really use an impact rookie quarterback. Schefter’s source could end up being absolutely correct. There’s a decent chance a couple, maybe three, quarterbacks go in the first round, but that may end up being all that go on Thursday night.
