If you’re a New England Patriots or Oakland Raiders fan, it’s a play you’ll likely never forget. NFL referee Walt Coleman is aware of this fact, unfortunately all too well. Coleman was the head referee for the Patriots’ AFC Divisional playoff game against the Raiders on Jan. 19, 2002, a thriller that will be forever remembered as the “Tuck Rule” game. With 1:43 left in the game and Oakland leading 13-10, Charles Woodson blindsided quarterback Tom Brady and forced an apparent game-clinching fumble that the Raiders recovered. After video review, however, Coleman and his crew cited the “tuck rule” to rule that Brady’s fumble was actually an incomplete pass. According to Coleman, he still hears about his infamous ruling today. “I was definitely known for that, still known for that,” Coleman said Friday, via ESPN. “It doesn’t go away. That play still doesn’t go away. It still floats around and I still receive emails periodically from people who live out in the western part of the coun

Tom Brady likes the challenge of Pats’ new secondary

Tom Brady doesn’t like to lose a rep. But the physicality of the Patriots defensive backs in camp has given Brady a steady diet of reps gone bad. Receivers leave the line of scrimmage and the handfighting, jostling, grabbing and shedding with the defensive back is on. On Wednesday, it bubbled over when Brandon Browner got called out for overdoing it. Back at the line of scrimmage...

Patriots Work Out Brady Quinn, Could Ryan Mallett be Traded?

The New England Patriots have no experience behind Tom Brady at the quarterback position. While the same could be said for most contenders around the league, it’s still important to note that if Brady goes down, the Patriots will be in trouble.  There is absolutely no reason to believe that free agent journeyman Brady Quinn could be a viable short-term replacement should Brady...

What To Expect From The New England Patriots' Offense In 2014

Let's be clear about one thing: 2013 was an anomaly for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. This is a team that puts a lot of points on the board. Oh, and one more thing: all predictions assume few, if any, significant injuries (which greatly hurt their 2013 performance). The Patriots were ninth last year in both rushing yards per game and average yards per rush. They were...

Revis, Browner making Brady ‘pay’ for mistakes

AFC QB’s, The Elite 3

Obviously with that headline, no one has to say, “Of course we are going to watch them. They are the top teams in the AFC”. But when you look at the QB’s of the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, and Pittsburgh Steelers, you have to look at not only their bodies of work, but combined they have won 6 Superbowls out of 10 appearances (Brady=3-5, Roethlisberger=2-3, Manning...

The receiving corps is still a major issue for the New England Patriots

In the dynasty days of New England, wide receiver was not a chief concern. Due to the dominance of the defense and the fact that the offense was not as relied upon as the potent passing attacks we’ve come to know from the Pats. These days, however, it seems that finding a good stock of reliable pass catchers for Tom Brady is the one main issue to be found with the team. The first...

Patriots Preparing For Joint Practices Against Redskins (Video)

Some NFL players don’t like the league’s joint practices during the preseason because they’re reluctant to let another team see how they run things. But the New England Patriots don’t see them that way. “I mean, you — sometimes you play a team twice in a year, and they’re really familiar with you, you’re familiar with them and ultimately, you gotta go out and the...
