In what has been anticipated for weeks, the NFL has levied punishment upon the players who took part in the Saints’ bounty program.
As expected, commissioner Roger Goodell brought the hammer down … hard.
Per multiple reports, the league has suspended linebacker Jonathan Vilma for the entire 2012 season.
His defensive cohorts — Scott Fujita (3 games), Anthony Hargrove (8 games), and Will Smith (4 games) got off a bit easier, but it’s still a big blow to a reeling Saints squad.

Today the NFL handed down its long anticipated punishments of Saints players involved in "bountygate." As was widely believed, Jonathan Vilma was the player hit heaviest, getting a one year suspension. Here's exactly how the suspensions break down.

The last of the Rog bountygate banhammerings has come, as we all knew that it would. After dishing out punishment to coaches and front office types, Ginger Justice remained to be served on the players. It being against players, you knew it would be rough. But would the punishment be suitably draconian or mere garden-variety trip to the woodshed? We now know The Rog...
The news just keeps getting more grim for Saints fans this off season. Per NFL insider Mike Freeman the league has suspended star linebacker Jonathan Vilma for the entire 2012 season for his participation in the bounty system that was uncovered earlier this year: Vilma, who was a Saints team captain, allegedly offered a $10,000 [...]
It's probably safe to assume there won't be any more bounty programs in the NFL, at least not for a long time. Roger Goodell and the league took their latest steps in disciplining the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday, and it's not good for the players involved. The league announced the suspensions of four players on Wednesday morning. The biggest ban came down for Saints...
Jonathan Vilma was “suspended without pay for the 2012 NFL season, effective immediately per league policy for season-long suspension. From NFL.com” There was a bit of an uprise on Social Media today that the Jon Vilma suspension was less than fair. Before I go deep into my opinion on the subject, I think it’s [...]

Scott Fujita, whose currently with the Browns, suspended three games, Anthony Hargrove suspended eight games, Will Smith suspended four games, Jonathan Vilma suspended for the entire season. “It is the obligation of everyone, including [...]
While linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive end Will Smith prepare to challenge their suspensions, the Saints finally are able to start planning for next season, knowing their defense, although hurt, won't be decimated.
When the NFL first announced on March 2 that as many as 27 current or ex-Saints participated in a cash-for-hits bounty program, seemingly most of the New Orleans...
Will Smith and Jonathan Vilma wasted no time issuing statements separately at the news of their suspensions, making it known they denied the claims made against them (which aren't entirely clear) and that they were ready to pursue every avenue possible to fight these suspensions they deemed unfair. My level of pessimism on how this will play out is fairly elevated and my advice...
Four players for the New Orleans Saints have been suspended without pay for conduct detrimental to the NFL as a result of their roles in the team's bounty program that endangered player safety over three seasons.
Jonathan Vilma has been suspended for the entire 2012 season, Scott Fujita for the first three games, Anthony Hargrove for the first eight games and Will Smith for...
The New Orleans Saints relished the chance to deliver knockout blows to opponents. In response, the NFL has slapped the team with enough suspensions to make them woozy.
The final tally of penalties for the Saints' play-for-pay bounty scandal includes administrators, coaches and, now, players. In all, New Orleans was dealt suspensions without pay for a total of 50 games (plus...
The bounty gate waiting game may have finally met it's end. Even if you are outraged, or agree, with the latest, I think we can all find some relief in the concept that this could all be over now and we can move on. The suspensions are the following: Jonathan Vilma for an entire year, Will Smith for four games, Anthony Hargrove for 8 games and Scott Fujita for 3 games. How Roman...
